VAFC for dyno tuning.. worth it? plz help
i am about to dyno tune my car to have my cam gears set for maximum power on my skunk cams and i also have a VAFC uninstalled. question is.. if i let them install and tune my car with a VAFC.. how much more whp can the VAFC give me?
I picked up 10whp and a hell of alot in the midrange and at part throttle with a VAFC-2 on my B16A2 with Buddy Club cams.

awesome
i will consider using my apexi VAFC1 along with adjusting cam gers... i pray to god to gain 20ish whp with the skunk2 manifold attached to it too

Yeah im gonna say get some real tuning but if its all you have to work with then alright. How are you going to tune it accuretly? Try putting in some overlap in those cam gears and expierement. Please tell me your not gonna use the butt dyno and make fuel adjustments from thur?
right now my set up is IHE, cams, cam gears, and intake manifold. im running a chipped p28 "J race chip" and i will take it to a dyno tune. im not very familiar with all this "tuning" stuff.. but as far as i know, i will be tuning my cam gears and VAFC to get maximum gains. any other suggestions?

Why?
Gains can be had with a VAFC, many people over and over again have proved they are an ok unit for tuning on mild builds.
Alot of people ask a question about VAFC and get BS comments like this.
I got mine for $200 cdn locally, installed it, for me it was one hell of a lot cheaper than converting to OBD1 and getting everything needed to run Crome.

simply because he would net more gains with a far more tuning capable freeware such as crome. with a vafc all he can adjust is a/f and set vtec but theres more than that then tuning a car properly.
but hey, for the price they go for they are a modest tuning capable device but if i were you i wouldnt waste my money.
oh yea. for $250 usd
you could have gotten an obd2-obd1 conversion harness and a socketed obd1 ecu. all you need is a crome tuner.

If you are using the VAFC to alter the MAP signal to your computer, you will run into issues with the computer reading from the wrong columns in the timing map because it "thinks" it is seeing more/less vacuum than it actually is. Be careful...

Very true, vafc tuning should only done for minor fuel corrections for cars with mild bolt on's or when the ecu has been chipped and needs only a small amount of correction. Dan

I completely agree .. Basically the vafc tricks the ecu by altering the map sensor voltage making the ecu think that the car is seeing more or less vac. Then it actually is.. Vafc's are junk IMO. When you consider the fact that for the same price as a vafc you can get everything you need to be tuned on CROME.(which is the same thing as hondata s200(in my opinion and I tune both of them).
VAFC (minor fuel adjustments and vtec engagment points)
CROME (major fuel, timing adjustments, vtec engagment points, rev limter, speed limiter, full throttle launch, built in shift light, boost option, injector size multiplier, ITB TOOLS, datalogging options, ect
Just my 2 cents

if you dont know what your doing with it, find someone who does. Crome tuners are all over the place. Just make sure they have a good reputation. Some people will say they know how to tune, but really dont.
