Default Finding 6th gear

First off, I just got my new Si this past Friday, and completely love it and am very happy with it in every way. Galaxy Grey Metallic, hope to get some pics up soon. I've just been real busy.

My only problem with it so far is the shifter. And not even really the whole thing, only 6th gear. I like the shifting. I think it is firm and crisp. but when I go to put it into 6th I never seem to do it smoothly. It always seems to get hung up, and I get all paranoid like I'm gonna drop it into R or hit 4th and f' it up.

Before anyone asks, this isn't my first manual trans. I have been driving them since I started driving and even took my lisence test on a stick. so it's not me.

Anyone else find that this took some gettting use to? Or are still dealing with it? Or am I just imagining it?

hey You kinda have to pull it down towards your right and it will go in to 6th but don't push it to the right pull it down to right and it always goes in for me. BTW when I first started I down shifted to 4th all the time haha so I didn't even bother going to 6th!

There is a lockout that prevents you from shifting to R when the car is moving so don't worry about that.

sounds strange. i've driven them at work (honda dealership) and never had a problem finding 6th. the shifting did seem a little weird to me at first though. not just 1 gear the whole gearbox

mmmmm cake with chocolate icing... (gargle like homer simpson)

Yeah I kind of adjusted my grip a little on the way home lastnight and it already is so much better. Thinking back, most of them were only 5 speeds. hadn't really thought of it before. Thanks for the comments guys.

Pull it diagonally down away from you, from neutral. My SVT has hit 4th a few times, but luckily I wasn't revving the **** outta it..

Impossible to hit reverse while going to 6th.. Lock out pin as stated above.

Yeah man, now worries. Just like everyone said push out a touch to the right.
You'll get use to it in no time.

6th gear extends out so far because the gear is soo tall. 6th gear was designed for super fuel econmy... we basically have the same trans as an RSX Type-S(+LSD). Exceot for 6th gear, SI's are much taller in 6th then the RSX's. So were claimed to get better gas milage. have you noticed when u shift 1-5 they are all very close together..but then u shift to 6th and ur RPM drops big time? I dunno..i love mine!! Everything great...even 6th gear!!

It took me a few days to get used to the shifter- it seemed like the whole pattern was rotated a little from my last car, but I never had any 6th gear problems once I figured it out.

6th gear seems really short to me, I guess it is all relative. The whole gearbox ratios remind me a lot more of my Suburu (which was super close), than my old car (G20). I guess I'm still getting used to the "rev the **** out of it" type of motor.

Took me a day or two, but like above it's cake. Now, I will have to get used to my comptech short shifter when it gets here!

It took me a few days too to get used to it, do as everyone above says. pull to the right a little when shifting down
