REMOVING EXHAUST
ok..so when driving my car..at 3000 RPM's...the car starts to jerk back and forth and acceleration is also VERY slow. At first I thought it was my fuel injectors but after having them cleaned out I was told it could be my cat converter is clogged. Im interested in removing the exhaust (stock)and cat myself to see fi that is infact the prob... does anyone have a good, clean easy way of removing everything? As I am poor...i have to wait till the 20th (pay day) of the month to order my exhaust.....any directions on removing the cat/exhaust would be greatly appreciated.

there aren't any tricks ot it really. just start taking off bolts. some WD40 on the rubber exhaust bushings will make it easier, and make sure you remove the o2 sensor on the cat before you try and tug that baby off the car.
on another note, i don't think a clogged cat is the source of this problem. try cleaning your IACV, people claim this is often a source of hesitation problems. i found my EGR ports were clogged and causing my motor to sputter at times, which was solved with a simple cleaning of the EGR valve and ports. you may want to search around for hesitation symptoms before you go and order yourself an exhaust.

i was told that might be the problem as well...but the thing is my exhaust tips are black!! I just washed my car a few weeks ago and i can never remember the tips getting as black as they are now so fast. Also when you rev the engine you can hear the exhaust kinda like spit and whatnot...thats why i thought it might be the cat.
oh and iw as planning on getting exhaust this month anyways but would like to be able to drive my car until then....

keep in mind that the 4th gen cat doesn't have an o2 sensor. it's on the lower part of the exhaust manifold. not sure about 5th gens but i would think i does due to the obdII.
make sure you have lots of blaster<better version of wd40> and a breaker bar cause if it is a 4th gen stock exhaust they will be rusted and really hard to remove.

the "cat" will tend to break up inside and clog your exhaust...happened on my old 'lude. If thats the case, you can bang on it with a hammer , not to hard, and you'll hear the pieces rattling around.
