i was wondering if all i needed to do to clean my EGR port (cause im getting a code from my ECU) was take it off and scrub it or if there was anything i could use to clean it better like any liquid or something and the only thing holding it on is 2 bolts a vaccum hose and a wire harness right thanks for input
You could probably use some carb cleaner or something. Make sure there aren't any carbon ***** stuck in there. Yes, there are only two nuts, a vacuum hose and electrical connection to remove.
My girls Jimmy threw a EGR code and the shop wanted 250 to replace it. I took it off and found a carbon ball stuck in it, free'd the plunger and reinstalled with a new gasket that has a screen to prevent it from happening again.
Might want to go ahead and clean the EGR ports while your in there servicing the EGR valve.

Honda actually has a service bulliten for this. You need to clean out the EGR ports too.
The bulliten number is 98-074. This invloves drilling the ports and inserting a brass plugs. This is quite a job for a person that is not mechanically inclined but it can be done. Let me know if you need instructions

I need instructions, I was just looking for the post that was up a day or two ago with the instructions. So when you go into Honda what exactly do you ask for, just brass plugs for the intake manifold?
Actually that will be better. Go there and ask them to print off the bulliten for you. Then the parts guys can get the plugs for you with the numbers from the bulliten.
My best advice would be to make friends with one of the good techs in the back and have them do it on the side after work.

I'm not sure of the exact service bulliten MooGoCow3 is refering to but I've seen this posted many times. It covers both 90-93 Accord and 94-97 Accord 4cyl.

there is a port under the valve but the ports I'm refering to are actually on top of the runners, there's like 6-7 ports there in addition to the port(s) under the valve itself. If you take a look at that link I posted you'll see what I'm refering to. That link will shows you how to clean those ports.
I just had my mechanic clean out the EGR ports and drill the ports and insert brass plugs. Since I failed badly due to emmisions, I had to get this done.
But no more blue/white smoke!

another option to the brass plugs is to drill and tap the ports and insert a bolt, set screw or something to seal it yet make later port cleanings easier. I think F22Parts.com offers this service as well, not that it's helpful if your IM is on the car but you can check out there site and take a look to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
Though the facts given about EGR passage cleaning are correct ,Clogged EGR ports will not throw a code in early OBD cars! The ECM recieves voltage signals from the EGR lift sensor to ensure that the valve is opening at the correct RPM. Chances are you have a problem with your EGR control soleniod. (If your EGR valve holds vacumm)
