Tein SS Differences??
I'm not sure if this belongs here in the suspension forum or the Integra forum but I thought I would give it a shot here...
A few friends and I have Tein SS coilovers on our cars (Integras and Civics)... We've noticed some differences between the shocks though... For example, my friend has an Integra and his look like this
and I also own an Integra, but mine look like this

See the difference? Mine have Green collars, and his have silver... Also, my Tein stickers are on the bottom part of the shock below the spring, and his are on the top part behind the spring...
Just wondering why they look different... is one the old model and one the new model?
From our personal experiance, it also seems as though the silver collared ones will lower the car more (For example, if the front is turned all the way down) vs. the oens with the green collar. My friend has his silver collared ones turned all the way down in the front, with blades and 195-50-15 tires, and mine are also turned down all the way in the front with blades and 205-50-15 tires... His car is retardedly low, with front tires tucking like crazy, and mine just meet the tire perfectly or maybe even a tiny gap.
Originally I thought this was because I have a Skunk 2 front camber kit on my car and he has no camber kit... we thought this for over a year until my friend ordered some tein basics and he has the green collar and his civic doesnt dump that low either (its a perfect drop, woudlnt want it any lower but still) ... and Im pretty sure my brothers tein basics have the silver collar...
Anyway, a lot of reading I know, but can anyone enlighten me on this?

your friends is the old version, yours is the new version. your may also be the japanese version.
i sold my tein ss years ago, due to the "popcorn" effect. and for the simply fact you can not lower teins all that low unless you get the flex system. which i did later which took care of the popcorn effect, and now i run BC RS with a better spring rate.
i personally dont think you will be too happy with the tein ss setup. but good luck

Thanks for the reply
What is the 'popcorn' effect?
I've had this suspension for almost 2 years now, they seem pretty good to me.
and I guess the older ones you could lower it more than you can the new ones, hmm.

well the term is my own but the popcorn effect is basically your in your car on the highway and going over bumps and you bounce like a popcorn in a popcorn machine at the movie theatre.
i remember putting the settings just like the instructions say. so i had about 1" gap and springs were preloaded all bolts were torqued to spec. and on the freeway i would go over slopes and i would be instantly airborne. wtf
and forget about being on the street. if your going fast the shocks do the job but going normal 25-30 on the street the bouncing was just unbearable and comical too.
not sure whats worse bouncing around like popcorn or sell my car and get a ricey car.
now i am on buddyclubs, lowered 3" with 12k fronts and 10k rears much more stiffer than the ss and no more popcorn effect. so i would have to assume the rebound and valving is better on the bc compared to the ss the flexs were good with very slight bouncing but bearable and i switch due to a better deal on the bc's
