Default symptoms of a bad tranny

i have a 96 acura integra LS 98 k automatic.
My question is what is or are the symptoms of a bad transmission in an automatic? when i accelerate it delays for a second, but i think cause the older is getting older...and the pickup on it and performance is not up to what it used to be, can someone an expert or mechanic advise me some symptoms of a tranny going bad?

thanks

Fluid with a burned smell is never good. Do the clutches slip during gear changes?

rough up and down shifts are symptoms, also and whining it makes while driving

it could be a slipping clutch because that is a common problem with honda's

when you say rough or slipping what do you mean, remembe I drive automatic, when i accelerate...and i can feel it kicking into another gear, it kinda...isn't as smooth as I anticipate..it doesnt necessarily rattle or jump real fast, but it just isnt a smooth transition, would your car stall if you have a bad tranny?

Would you care to explain what is in the picture?

Automatic transmissions have many clutches, which can slip when failing.

Slipping clutches will rev briefly and then drop RPM as the gear engages more slowly than is normal. If I recall correctly, the ECU controls gear changes in your AT.

Really?? I could have sworn automatic transmissions HAVE clutches inside them.
Giving you the benefit of the doubt here, I'm assuming you mean "cars that came with automatic transmissions did not come with a clutch PEDAL."

Your transmission shouldnt be bad at 98k. Someone on HT told me this and it works, take the solenoids in the tranny out and clean them. I would have a tranny place go and clean them rather than you doing it yourself but it will shift much nicer. Also, have the tranny fluid completely changed. If the tranny continues to shift hard, gets stuck in a gear, or shifts really loosely and sometimes goes into neutral its bad.
