Default Everyone whos had an oil light read this

has anyone here had firsthand experience with getting an oil light because their timing belt was bad, or was off a little bit on the gear on top of the oil pump? Has anyone had an oil light come on because of a bad oil filter? my oil light is coming on and im thinking its one of these 2 things, I really need your input because i know its not the oil pump, i put a brand new one on my JDM motor

The only way I know is to have a oil pressure autometer hook up so you will know if the motor have oil pressure, or lose up the oil sending unit and crank the motor to see if oil rush out the hole but don't start the car just crank it over. Bad oil filter could have cause it too because I have once put on a oil cooler on my car and put the oil hose wrong and I start my car and it didn't have oil pressure on my auto meter and my dash oil light came on, then I change it around then it have oil pressure. If the oil filter is bad it could have block the oil so it will not travel.

when your car idles, does it idle rough?

does the oil light go away when you rev the motor up a little?

if the pump isnt pumping youll notice at idle.

it could very well just be the sensor.

FYI...

Oil light coming on = VERY BAD...

When your oil light comes on that means the engine is picking up air instead of oil. This creates contact between the bearins and journals....If my digital wasn't broken I'd take a pic and show you how I know.

You more then likely are burning oil too much oil. You could have bearing failure.

Good way to check is to cut open the oil filter next oil change...check for metal shavings or gold flakes...or both. If you see this, your bearings are failing.

My oil light coming on was from a different reason.

The wire that was connected to the oil pressure sensor (on back of block) was coming loose and would make the light come on for some reason.

oil light is very bad, blew my motor by disregarding that light, found out lost all oil presure before she blew, now i have b16 swap, so i suggest checking everything that would cause that light to come on

Don't drive anymore until you at least have your pressure tested with a gauge. If the pressure is fine, then your oil pressure sending unit, ICU or short in the wiring could cause a false light.

I had my oil light coming on about a year ago, instead of freaking out, I installed an oil-pressure gauge and all is fine, perfect pressure.
