Default Pulling the head

In the old schoool days it was common to pull the heads off of an engine and drop the pan and do rings and bearings. Do people do that with lets say my b-18c? I have some higher compression type r pistons and rings and don't really feel like pulling the engine and tranny. The engine runs fine and sounds good . it just uses some oil.

I guess nobody has ever put pistons in without pulling the engine. Anybody?

I had it apart to do some valve work and therewere still honemarks but I didn't go any further at the time. I used to hone that way also , I put a rag over the journals
