Default 17s on accord

i have a stock 96 accord, i just wanted to put 17's on it.

will i run into any problems with the tires wearing out or is the stock suspension going to be fine? And how can i make sure my speedo doesn't get messed up. Is there anything else changing tire sizes does?

17's with very low profile tire if you want to stay true on your speedometer. Search for a 17 inch tire ratio that will be as high as your 15 inch. (hard to explain, but hope you got the idea)
Make sure you dont go to wide on the tire, you'll scrubbbbbb fender wells on turns

friend has 17's on his, not lowered, with low pros and they dont rub, his speedo is a tiny bit off tho.

i have never been a fan of 17's myself, they are too big.

15 or 16 ftw

yeah, ok. Like your one to talk. I read a few of your last posts and they haven't been anything to jump for joy over.

Why so quick to bash him?

Besides, iam7head is right. Do a search and see how many times this topic has been covered. By searching and doing some reading through some other the previous threads, I'm sure the OP would have found the answer they were looking for.

It's not hard to explain either.

Basically what you want to do is get a tire that has as close to the overall diameter of your stock tire. For example, lets say your stock tire is 195/60/15, this means you have a 24.2" diameter tire. Now the tire your going to want is going to depend on a few things. One being the width of the rim it's going on and the being that 24.2" diameter. Most 17" rims are what, like 6.5-7" wide? So your going to want either a 205 or 215 wide tire. If you choose a 205 wide tire, your going to want to find a tire sized 205/45/17 which will fit on say a 6.5" wide rim and have an overall diameter of 24.3" If you choose to go with a 7" wide rim you'll most likely want a 215 wide tire in the size of 215/45/17 which would give you an overall tire diameter of 24.6" Now thats a little big but I wouldn't drop to the 215/40/17 because thats too small of a sidewall for me, so I would just live with the speedo being slightly off with the 215/45/17 size tire.

Other things to keep in mind when choosing your rim/tire combo. Pay attention to the offset and width of the rim. You don't want a rim thats offset will push the rim too far out nor do you want one that will pull it too far in and hit the suspension. If your lowered, you're going to want to make sure the rim/tire isn't going to stick out and hit your fender when you go over big bumps, if it does you're going to want to go with something different or roll your fenders.

So the speedo will be off, going with the 215/45/17, would that increase the speed it says(since its a little bigger) or slower speedo? thnx

uh, it's only going to be off like 1MPH or 2. Nothing to really worry about.

I can't think of which way the speedo will read though.

thanks.

its not that i didn't know if they'd fit or not, because i know they will fit and the offset is 42mm so they shouldn't rub and i knew that i needed low pro's to make the speedo not off. the tire size im not sure about. i will find out

If the tire is slightly larger than stock your speedo will read slightly slower than stock, but if touringaccord's advice is followed as you know you won't have any problems. I currently have 18's and dropped nearly 3" with no clearance issues. Just as a side note.

i asked the same question awhile back, and the reply i got was that the right tire size is 205/45/17 on some 17x7 rims on a 94 accord, if that helps you out .

I put 17's on my Accord with 225/45/17 tires. I wouldn't recommend anyone to get that wide of tires because I scrap going around sharp corners when my car is loaded down. One thing though, my speedo is dead accurate now. Before it read higher then I was actually going, but now its right on.

Look Up a thread!!!
"How do i change a headlight bulb on my 2002 Accord v-6 sedan", page 3.
iam7head said "Search?" in this thread, see that one.
Seems like someone is contradicting himself.
Dont think I'm starting anything with you. Just try to see my point.

My gf is sitting on 17's on her 96 rolling on 205/40/17's I would not recommend that. We are switcing to 215/45/17's as soon as funds are available.

ok, I read through that thread. And on a side note, let me say that the search feature couldn't find it for some reason. I searched for just headlight, headlight bulb, the full title, ect and the search kept kicking back no results. Had to go find it the hard way.

Anyway, I don't see the problem. So he helped someone with how to change a lightbulb but only told the OP of this thread to search? Is that your point? Or is it that he got on your case for not being helpful and just ragging on the OP of that thread, then in this thread you didn't feel he was being helpful like he said to you in the other thread? I figuring it's the second one? If so, I would think his responce to you in that other thread was mostly due to your negative and harsh reply. Now if he had done that in this thread, meaning being negative in his reply, then I could see where you would be coming from.

So I see what went on now, I guess I just see in a different light than you is all.

But thats just my $.02, not that it matters.

I'd still recommend 45 series tires for added safety
