Transmission noise
Does it stop making the noise once you pop it out of a gear? For instance, you are coming to a stop and it's doing this "rattling" thing, but you pop it out of gear and into neutral. Does it stop even when you take your foot off the clutch?

Wierd mine does the same thing. Not really a "rattle" but an internal muffled rattle. I just replaced all the mainshaft bearings and checked my countershaft. Clutch release and pilot bearings are all brand new. Hmmmmmmmmm.......
Everyone told me it was the input shaft bearing
Bet you thought I had an answer for you
I hope you solve your problem, b/c it will help me solve mine

When you were in your trans did you check the pre load on the ring and pinion? " correct thrust shims on the diff"
Does it make this sound on execration and decell but not in a coast with it out of gear?
Does the sound sort of ring? If so then i would say the diff is not in speck and there is to much play between the ring and counter shaft.

Unfortunately, I never checked any of the shims. I just kind of cracked it open did what I needed to do, gave it a quick visual inspection, cleaned it up and put it back together and in the car. In retrospect, I regret not checking EVERYTHING! It makes the sound at a kind of odd time, but not a "ring" sound. It's so hard to describe sounds, especially from a tranny. In my case it's not constant thing. For example, I'm in reverse and backing up in a parking lot, as soon as I push the clutch in it will make the sound I referred to ^ in my other post. Now, if I quickly pop the car out of reverse and into neutral the sound immediately stops. It's the same exact thing in first gear. At any other speeds I wouldn't be able to tell due to sound
It will occasionaly make the infamous "knocking" sound while idling, but sometimes it comes and sometimes goes. Weird. I haven't noticed any harsh effects like horrible shifting. If anything, the shifting has been smoother since I replaced stuff, but the sound is the same. I'm not totally concerned anymore, but would like to pinpoint the problem before I open it up in the future for modifications.
So you think it could still be the diff/shims?

Someone help the OP/me out
EDIT....Just the saw the original post has been changed. Hope he figured it out
