when you first start the car, how long does it take to build up full oil pressure?
every morning i start my car, and i let it idle for about 30 seconds, because i want to get oil flowing up to the top-end. then i start driving, i try to shift below 4 until it's warm, when i proceed to romp on it and wind it all the way up to redline for onramps. i was just wondering if anybody knows how long it takes the b18b to build up full oil pressure on a normal morning. i live in cali so an average morning is like 60 degrees. the car has 176k on it, i run motul 5/30 full synthetic, and it really doesn't burn oil. it's a happy little car.
I have an oil pressure gauge, and as soon as I start my car and it is at high-idle, the oil pressure is pegged around 75/80 psi. So I wouldn't worry about oil pressure at start up. You should probably be more concerned with engine temps.
I keep the rpms below 3K until the Temp gauge reaches normal operating temp. Usually takes my car about 7 minutes to fully warm up, and as it warms up, the oil pressure gradually drops to 17 psi at normal 750 idle, and 70 psi at 3K rpms.
Minimum specs for oil pressure on my B18a is 10 psi at idle and 50 psi at 3K rpms

thanks, sam, that's really the kind of info i was looking for. engine temp has always been what i keep an eye on, but i figured it couldn't hurt to ask about oil pressure too. so i guess the answer is either let it idle longer before i drive, or just keep doing what i do, drive it gently until it's warm. it's just that my commute is so short that the car barely gets to operating temp by the time i hop on the freeway.
