Default D16A6 Troubles - Fresh Rebuild - Wont Turn Over... Crank... Crank... Crank *VIDEO*

HERES THE VIDEO

http://videos.streetfire.net/v...9.htm

This is a fresh d16a6 that I rebuilt. Trying to get it started wont go, just cranks and cranks its life away

I have a video I can upload of what it sounds like and what the lights are doing and the reaction of everything. Its an .asf file though, I gotta figure out how to host it

I really dont even know where to start with checking, Ive never had a car that didnt start. I'll mention what I do know though, its a d16a6 with vitara pistons and eagle rods, worked head with delta 272 cam and aem adjustable cam gear, timing advanced 3 degrees at the cam to account for .040" head mill

Its running a turboedit chipped ecu with a basemap from zenocron, dsm blue top 450's. The car has fresh 91 oct gas, just through in a walbro pump aswell. Plugs/wires are new and the dizzy is known to be good working.

This is my first time timing a motor aswell, dist and timing belt, if that makes a difference, I just got #1 cyl to tdc, a6 head to its mark and thew on the belt, should be fine right? My crank doesnt have visible marks that I can see but I didnt really look.

I just need to know what it could be and how do I check it please. Im lost at this.

Thanks guys

I would never run turboedit unless its for an obd0 car.

So many things could have gone wrong because of this statement. Run a compression test and see what your compression is. If theres no compression this could very much be the problem. I would redo the timing before you expletive up a valve (if the belts on wrong). It would take forever to explain how to get the motor to TDC and put timing belt on. But in a nut shell stick a 24'' extention in the spark plug hole and wait til it reaches its highest point. Thats TDC.

Where are you located?

Usually, the first things I check for is fuel and spark. Then move on from there. Start with the simple things then work your way up.

There should be marks on you crank pulley to let you know where the crankshaft is.

For fuel, start with your pump listen for it to hum when you turn the key to the "on" position. If you don't hear it check it for voltage with a multimeter. If you have voltage, check the pump relay. Also, check your plugs to make sure it's not flooding.

For spark, I usually just pull a plug off slightly and look for a nice blue spark.

BTW, all the things your asking here could be answered if you invested in a Haynes manual. There's a wealth of information in those books. Even a step-by-step tutorial on changing the timing belt. They're cheap too. I'd be lost without mine.

OK, I really dunno what the problem is because I changed so many things at once, just so many, everything really.

Im definetely getting oil pressure, I left my turbo feed line loose and made a good spill, so I know im good there

I dont know if my fuel pump was priming or not, shop is loud, my main relay sure is ticking fast when trying to start it though

Timing is the one thing I was never sure of, so I just put the #1 cyl to tdc, put the head (very lightly used built head so I know valve clearance is good) to tdc by making the aem cam gear mark line up with the little notch on the timing cover (d16a6) and threw on the belt. Im rpetty sure I checked it many times by spinning it here in my basement

I dont have marks on my crank I dont think thats why i had so much trouble

Is there any ways to trouble shoot your fuel system? That would help me out a whle lot

Spark I will check, thermo ground might have paint on it, firing order and fuel pump check

NEED HELP WITH FUEL!!!

Also - Would my car be throwing any cel's if its never been started?

Well I just dicked around for a while on the car, first thing I did was listen for the fuel pump, wasnt priming, checked for voltage in the yellow/black wire, nothing was there

So I assumed my main relay was **** (I can feel it clicking rapdily when I try and prime the pump)

Just went to the yard and grabbed 2, one off a 91 civic and another off a crx si. Hope one is good

Just thought id update it

double check all your grounds, particularlly the one on the thermostat housing.
That will prevent your fuel pump from working.

Well I dont know if it was the main relay, the ecu reset or my resolderring my power wire to the fuel pump but it all of the sudden worked

walbros are loud btw- ****** wow ( I quickly found out I didnt clamp my fuel feed line and it blew off with 60psi pressure hahahaha)

So I adjusted my FPR slowly but surely down to 38 or so psi when its priming, should be good enough to start it

I went to check spark by taking the #1 cyl wire and plug out, reconnecting them and holding them very close to my valve cover ground, has my GRANDMA crank the car for a second, I couldnt see a think, did it again, couldnt see ****

Oh ya, and it didn throw a code without starting, code 10, thats my only one

So I guess tomorrow its new distributor time or could it be something else?

BTW- I LOVE JUNKYARDS!

#1 check to make sure that your belt is on correctly and that the distrib. is pointing to the correct cylinder compared to the crankpulley ..meaning turn your crank pulley to TDC manually and make sure the dizzy is pointing to #1 cylinder

I have no idea how to do this, no idea what the inidctates what cyl its pointing at

ok first off,-the fuel pump relay- when you turn the key to on position you should hear a clicking noise coming from the passenger side it last for like 2 sec., if you don't then its time for a new one.
second make sure your timing is right and also your ingition timing is correct this plays a huge role, if its off a bit it will expletive up(because its your first time doing timing its common), third when checking spark on the spark plugs just get a flat head screw driver and hold it at the rubber part(of course) have somebody turn crank the car while your hold the end of the flat head to the end of the spark plug and check for spark at each one. third make sure your spark plugs a correctly gapped. and make sure to check the igintion coil inside the disturbter is thats bad replace that.

See I dont even really know what the "ignition coil" or "rotor" is....

Ive just never had any problems with my car before and then I overhauled it

I dont see a picture though

I will check again for spark tonight with a screwdriver, if I dont see it I will change the wires (spare set I have) and if that doesnt work I have 2 dizzies here, just dont know if either are any good

i'll when you take off the idisturbter cover, do u know how to do that?the ignition coil is the little block thing that goes in the disturbter with the spring coming out it, the rotor is the thing that spins in the distrubter to spark the plugs wires etc.
if you want me too i can take pics of it for you?

I would LOVE if you could take a pic of it for me

Good news though

IT STARTED!!

All it ended up being was a poor connection on the dist little plug, I took it out and it was filled with grime and ****, sprayed it up with carb cleaner and it FIRED FIRST CRANK!!

I have to give it gave to keep it going and it sounds like a bag when its running but it runs Im happy

I'll upload a video in a sec of it, gonna make a new thread though
