Exhaust Upgrade.
I am in the market for an exhaust for a 2000 ITR and I wanted the opinions of people at the wonderful Honda-tech type r forum... so here it goes.
I have a stock ITR, only engine mod - K&N 2710, I have looking at picking up one of the following - Spoon N1 axle back or Type One.
Which one of these units has a better build quality, likely to make more power, will hold up longer to various environmental conditions and has better fit quality?? I guess I should mention the application – Primary Use: street with moderate track usage.
Also, I would like some information with respect to the B-Pipe... Is it needed when installing the above mentioned exhaust units? If not, what is the advantage of having it?
I should also mention that I don’t want to wear earplugs when driving the car..
Thanks for any help you can offer.

yeah Spoon does not recommend the N1 for street use. Someone here claimed it dyno'd at 5whp for just the axle-back section...adding a bigger B-pipe can't hurt either.

A good header & high flow cat (or testpipe if you wish) will get you more power and you wont need ear plugs.. plus the *** end will still be stock looking to theives.. not that it matters much.
I plan to install a header in the future, when budget allows... but for right now.. I can get a good deal on the Spoon N1, but am still considering the Type One unit..
As for the noise... will a silencer work for either unit???

what " does the silencer bring the exhaust to? 1"? 2"?
If you can get the N1 for cheap, grab it...it's light as hell. But keep in mind it's also loud as **** and you will need a separate B-pipe which is not included in the $400+ (new) asking price.

installing a silencer kind of defeats the purpose of getting the exh since you lose
the power you gain
the power you gain
Both of those exhausts are damn loud, you will not get used to it.

Type-One system will actually be more expensive than the Spoon n1 with type-one b-pipe IF you get the Ti version. The spoon n1 is way louder than the type one and if you want more power that will be the way to go. I suggest getting neither if you don't want to put up with sound.
Intresting comments.. I guess I will take that adice into consideration... However, not quite sure why, I like the look on the Spoon N1, it seems a little more subtle then the Type One system..
One last question... if I install a exhaust, will my emissions be a problem?

neither are that loud. the type one is no louder than a tanabe RM. the spoon is just a little bit louder than the type one, but it mostly has a diff tone to it. type one little deeper sound. personaly i'd go spoon, but that cause i don't like the bigger tip on the type one. the type one is a very nice system though, and R&D has them in stock.

I think I will choose the Spoon N1 with the Type One B pipe... I live in T.O, so the price is in CND's - but I was quoted 800.00 taxes in for the N1 axle back... I did a little reseach and found that this is a decent price... but if anyone knows where I can score a better deal - I am all hears...
As well, can someone explain the exact reason for the B-Pipe?????

As for making power, I made 6whp and 4.3wtq with the TypeOne (silencer off). With the silencer on, my horsepower and torque numbers were back to the numbers I had before I installed the TypeOne.

You can always upgrade the b-pipe and keep the stock muffler on there. I'm going to reinstall the stock ITR muffler back on to find out if it poses a major restriction. I think the piece that really chokes up the exhuast system (header and cat excluded) is the b-pipe.

shoot my custom 2.5" exhaust with restrictive dynomax made 8whp and 10 lb/ft torque... and it cost me like $150. sounded like **** but worked. after seeing dyno's for most exhaust systems out there, I would alway make a custom exhaust for power... aftermarket systems are good for sound cuz who would buy an exhaust that sounded like **** for $500+??
need straight through flow and quiet? get magnaflow. and FYI comptech uses the straight through Dynomax mufflers...
