I will be heading to Japan in a couple of weeks for 10 days and will be staying 40 min outside of Tokyo. Anyone know any shops (besides from spoon) that i can visit? Anything else interesting around that area that i can visit?
Also, any H-T Japan members want to meet up for a drink?

Do you want to visit shops or places? where are you staying? Here's some for reference.
If you land in NARITA then you are pretty much in Tokyo.
To tell you the truth if you plan on visiting manufactures they might not be to fond of strangers just stopping by. But give it a shot.
Manufactures:
-HKS
-APEX
-POWER ENTERPRISE
-ARC
*They are pretty much located near each other within a 20 mile rad. Head south if you are in Tokyo. Located near or around Shizuoka prefixture.
Race Tracks:
-Fuji speed way (brand new track)
-Suzuka Raceway *I noticed that you have a Daijiro Kato Avatar, they have not raced motorcycles there since his crash.
If you like motorcycles:
-YOU MUST VISIT THE CITY OF UENO. A MOTORCYCLE PARTS AND PERFORMANCE TOWN!
Have a good time in Japan

Stop wasting your time trying to get parts for your car and enjoy the beauty of Japan.

When I was in the Kanto region I visited both Type One aka Spoon's showroom and Honda Twin Cam aka Feel's in Yokohama.
Also, I believe the Mugen Headquarters (now run by M-Tec following the tax scandal of 2003 making all but the the name of Mugen debunked) is still in Asaka, Saitama which is in Northern Tokyo.

If you're in Osaka, J's Racing and Signal are both located in Osaka, Ibaraki City.
Hiroshima has a shop which carries Toda parts on the low low...but I can remember their name. I'll see if I can find it.

I'm in Tokyo from 4th June for 10days. I'd love to visit both these places, have you got any more info on how to get there? Have FEELS got a showroom.
And wheres the best place to pick up a few 'bring home'able' Honda goodies

I've been to Feels (Honda Twincam) and they barely have what I would call a showroom. I would only stop by there if you're looking to pick up a specific part from them. Really not worth the time/effort just to look around, IMHO.
Type One is more or less the same deal as Feels. Unless you're looking to buy something in particular, you're just wasting their time.
At both of these shops, the mechanics will stop working and clean up, to talk to you. I would feel like a jerk if I had to tell them, "I'm just looking around".
I really recommend just enjoying the sights and the food.

Agreed. I stopped by JUN in Nerima-ku as I was getting some things from them but it's definitely not a window shopper's delight - I'd say that the description of Feels and Type One holds for JUN, too.
As nice as it would be to say "I saw xxx, xxx, and xxx", if you're only in Japan for a limited amount of time you're much better off pursuing other things.

Exactly.
The prices are only cheaper, because you're not paying shipping. However, you will be losing valuable time in which you could be doing other things in Japan. To me, it's simply not worth visiting car places unless you're going to Japan specifically for that or if you're staying in Japan for over a month.

I'm leaving for Japan on May 17th and staying for two weeks. I'm going to do the regular tourist stuff and going to be enjoying the culture, but I also want to do car stuff. So far in Tokyo we're planning on visiting Spoon, TypeOne, ARC, possibly M-TEC, and some car dealership and parts stores.
In the middle of the two weeks, I'm going to Osaka for a few days by Shinkansen (I figure riding a 200mph train is just as much a part of Japan as other things I could do). In addition to the tourist stuff I'll be doing there, I'll be visiting J's Racing and Signal Auto which is apparently not very far away. Also making sure I get to UpGarage too to try and pick up some used stuff. Right now I'm trying to get the address of Top Secret (what a coincidince that its hard to get).
Oh yes, and then the trip to Twin Ring Motegi to see a Formula race and hit up the Honda Museum. Should be an awesome time
If you want any of the addresses or directions to the places I just listed I'm going to just PM me, its too much work to type them all out here.

Top Secret is in Chiba, about halfway between central Tokyo and Narita airport. It's been like 5 yrs since I went by there, but it looks like the same place.
I would definitely call ahead of time and bring a Japanese speaking friend. Actually that would be a good rule for everywhere besides Spoon/Type One.

wow, what a neat thread. i do want to go to Japan very soon and this thread is great. i'd really like to visit alot of these places listed and to me almost seems like apart of their culture. i hate Sushi so i guess it'll be a good trade off when i go, ditch the Sushi resturaunts for car shops
