Broken Motor Mount Symptoms???
I've got a torn motor mount on my 94 gsr. It is the mount that is connected to the tranny by an extension arm. For awhile now I have been noticing that my right front wheel likes to bottom out and just seems really sloppy when taking a hard left turn (where alot of weight is on that wheel). I am wondering if the broken motor mount may be the cause of the poor suspension characteristics. It doesn't seem logical, but if anyone has some experience with this I'd appreciate some suggestions. Also, I don't think my front shock is to blame, because it damps fine in a straight line situation. TIA!
it could be a lot of things, when my tranny mount broke, (the oen you are talking about) my engine torqued the radiator hose right off the bottom of the radiator... this happened when i hit a gigantic pothole and hit the bottom of my tranny, 3 minutes later my car was starting to overheat... so i pulledover and then pushed it about 10 blocks to a midas
I'd say it probably has nothing to do with the mount. Even torn, the rubber's still there and the engine movement is still limited by the steel 1/2 circle around the mount rubber. Look at how big the ring is and how the steel pin that goes through it is situated. You'll see there's not a huge amount of movement there.
My guess that SlamminS85 may have actually removed the mount letting the engine flop around.
I think it sounds like you have a blown shock. If you lower a car on stock shocks, they don't last long.

nah, it was an older hose didnt flex well, mount was still there, just flopping around and the hose aws pulled off... that of course doesnt rule out the possibility that the same pothole that caused my tranny mount to break could have hit the hose or the bottom of my radiator.... this pothole was vicious....
Thanks for the replies guys! I seem to agree with you MasterKwan. Cuz it's only one spoke of the rubber mount that's torn so it shouldn't allow too much play as you say. I guess I just don't want to bring myself to the fact that I may have a blown shock. Well, either way, I'm going to replace the mount and then I'll know for sure what it is.
Buy a spring compressor and replace the shock. It's easy and reasonably fun.
Honda front suspensions are a lark to work on. Backs are easy too unless the shock bolt's frozen in place at which point I spend $100 for 2 new control arms.

Yeah, if I replace the shock, I'll definitely do it myself. I'll probably replace at least both fronts so that it's even. I was just trying to save up for koni coilovers before I wasted money on replacing just the shock. Oh well... Thanks again
