How to: get rid of Brake Dust?
Well I was experimenting with my wheels the other day trying to get off some baked on brake dust. (its really bad, and it WONT come off!!!
)
So to get the stuff off, i was trying diferent things. Regular soap and a sponge wasnt working.
Strangly enough, what seemed to work the best were things made for the bathroom.
i used some foam dissinfectant, and that seemed to work really well with the soft stuff.
And for the hard stuff, some generic CLR (Calcium, Lime,, Rust) was working pretty good (with a toothbrush)
The only prob I had was the CLR wasnt thick enough to sit and work at the carbon...I dont know how to make a thickening agent.
I'll make a real how to thread when I find my camera.
Wha are yalls opinions on what works and what doesnt? (And that spray on wheel cleaner doesnt work)

And in the future wash your wheels each time you wash your car. By keeping them clean every week you won't have to use harsh chemicals on them to get off years of baked on crud. Check out Dawn Power Scrub spray, works wonders on used pistons.
"0000" fine steel wool with any sort of rim cleaner will work real well. It is such a fine steel wool that it shouldn't scratch the paint or chrome. Also, try to stop by a car dealership and try to get some acid wheel cleaner off one of the detailers. It works so much better then any off the shelf cleaner.

steel wool is known to become embedded withing the sorfter metals and rust, while im sure acid isnt so effective to remove carboon as it is polishing certain metals
