Default wheel hop from hell!

ok we went to the track friday so I could finish tuning my car and all hell broke loose!

I was in the burnout box and brought the car up on launch limiter and began my burnout..all was fine till I started to roll out of the burnout and the front end started hopping BAD..I lifted as to not break anything but the car was hopping so hard I hit the gas again and took out the final drive..now I pretty much know what causes wheel hop but..I cant figure out why Iam getting this bad of hop..Iam setup as fallows..

L-Con traction bars
Omni power full coil overs
ES chassis master set
JimFab motor mounts
alignment has been check before the track and after

now with all I have done Iam still getting wheel hop that makes the front end of the car just hop..any ideas why this is so bad and what I should check? it seems this all started once I put in the twin disk..

David,

Do you use the Bogarts (Drag On Fly Star)? If so, check those suckers, make sure that nothing happened to them (i.e. bent rim) they are so soft that they can get a bend in them pretty easy. Also, check those slicks too if they are the ones that used last season. If you use the MT 26" they shake like a mother anyways.

Just a few things to look at.

Jason

Maybe a blown shock or something, that is definitely not normal. Check all your suspension bushings too, something may be worn out.

From my experience I would have to point my finger at the L-con traction bars...but that might just be me...

If not that, then probubly a blown shock like tony said. I would push down on either side of the car, and see if it bounces or not.

check those es bushings in the front, they tend to deform and wear pretty bad over time

the bushings are pretty much brand new...we put them in less than a year ago...and he's on omni suspension that is a little over a year old... but we will definately check all that stuff out...i am also on l-con traction bars and i havent had any probs, but then again it was probably because i was still on a single plate clutch...however the same night david broke his tranny, i was in the right lane and got a little wheel hop coming out of the burnout box in the right lane just like him...

I had the hydro shop redo the switchs to the rear only just like you terry!! LOL..

slicks are damn near brand new and I just spun them on the car and everything looks fine..I was told I was under powering my burnout and thats the reason I was hopping..Iam going to try longer 1st gear burnouts instead of 2nd gear burnouts and see what it does..

I had the same problem with my old EF hatch. Even when on slicks it would wheel hop like crazy. It turned out to be the front shocks. Both were blown(passenger side worse than the driver side). I just never paid attn. until I blew a FD as well .

Monroe Heavy duties from Kragen did the trick

if all else fails try a softer spring!

deflection happens in a back and forth motion on these cars. with a solid bar there, it wont be able to move back and forth. the only thing that can be happening now is that your wheel is going up and down!from my experience when all else checks out to be ok its probably the springs.
hope i could have been of some help. good luck!

well...

we went thru the car top to bottom and found nothing to be wrong..took the springs off the struts and all struts are good and all bushings are in great shape..I did a 1st gear burnout in the street infront of my house and it acted fine..but second gear hopped like crazy! and this was at a 9K rpm burnout on the limiter!!

Iam going to try some softer front springs (been told by sevral people this is most likely the issue) and see what it does.

well after a interesting phone call I went out and started my car and put it in 1st gear (while on jack stands) and found this..

right click save as....

right tire. http://highboostracing.com/mis/tires1.avi

left tire. http://highboostracing.com/mis/tires2.avi

think this matbe a problem? that left tire is like egg shaped..also tires are at 10 psi in these clips.

I think that would definetly be one possibility. I could see at a certain revolution that little out of roundness causing it to hop.

I've also known unbalanced wheels to cause wheel hop. I would talk to Mr M&H and see what he thinks.

well..

I took my slicks over to the man himself and it turns out the tube in the driver side may have been bound up (kinked) and the pass side wheel may have a slight bend to it..will find out more monday.

I don't know how well this would work on rims with slicks....but I don't see why it wouldn't.. You can go to A tire shop that has A Road Force balancer and have them spin them and it will tell you right were your problem is, weather it be in the tire or wheel and its exact location.
