Default need help w/ mini me

hey guys i need help with my buddys mine me. he is planning on doing it on a 99 civic 4 dr. it says ex on the back but the motor has no vtec. i think its a d16y or something. anyways, hes got a vtec head coming. what else do we need to do this project as far as just putting the head on. is there any mod that we have to do to the head and what all do we need to do to the block to make it stronger to handle vtec? any sites on how to do?

dont forget to remove the oil control jet once you remove the head im not sure if you need to get a waterpump and timing belt from the vtec motor but you might as well change the water pump while you have the head off

are you basing the motor having "no vtec" because it doesnt have it printed on the valve cover? if its a d16y8 then it does, y7 if it doesnt.

no the head has no vtec selonor or whatever. behind the dizzy it only has a hole of a shape where it belongs. so i dont need a oil line goning to the head like the lsvtec? it might be easier then the lsvtec right?

There is a nice FAQ on the top of the page that contains a few write-ups on "Mini-me's."

well if it reall is a Ex then they probably swaped the engine before your friend got it. but like i said if it really is an ex then you should be able to drop it right in, supposing it is still using the original wire harness and ecu. if its not then you gona have to rig up your own vtech wires and get a Ex ecu. thats pretty much it for what i can think of.
