is my prelude retarded?
1st gear no problems, 2nd gear everything is fine pulls real good,
3rd gear...what the...vtec engages...and it sorta "hesitates" at the begining, 5k to 6500 rpm ~...then fine for the rest and fourth gear good as well...
now last year i had issuses with this crazy *** miss firing because i needed to change plugss coil, etc...then got a re tune on my VAFC (not in relation to changing plugs etc, just cuz it occured at the same time)
anyway and i was fine afterwards...but now the problem is different..again its only in third gear and just at the begining of vtec...
i really dont get it...the third gear thing makes no sense to me
anyone?

what i dont understand is it works fine sometimes and other times dosent...i was thinking maybe sometime the gas i put in the car? maybe it just occured cuz there was a little water mixed with the gas at the pump? (condensation in the big *** tank underground maybe)
I had that problem with mine. I have a JDM swap which uses about a quart more oil than USDM. I didn't realize that so when I put the oil in, thinking it would be the same, I was low on oil. Vtec hesitated starting in 3rd, then 4th, then 2nd and 5th. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I checked the oil because vtec works from oil pressure, and I was low. So check your oil.

hmm well i guess i must be an idiot....i have worked at ahonda repair shop for years, owned an accord with a jdm h22 swap for 5+ years, had a 99 prelude for 3 years, had a jdm h22 swapped civic, and another usdm h22 swapped accord....and they all took the exact same amount of oil. They use the same heads, same block, same oil pan etc....
well someone told me maybe cuz i was using some Mobile 1 10w30 synthec that it might of been too thick for the engine....something along the lines of the oil passages in the h22 head are so small that they can clogg easy...wasent to sure..but to make sure i went and changed my oil with castrol 5w50 full syntech...
the problem seems to be gone, but im not sure...havent drived the car that much cuz im working on my civic alot...anyway..
yes its a 97 5 speed not tip tronic **** or whatever
thanks
EDIT: i also though its maybe my vtec solenoid thats clogged?

Top off your OIL It will do that if you low on oil, put a quart in and you will be fine

take out that screen and clean with some brake parts cleaner or carb and choke.
switching to synthetic tends to clean and break loose alot of crud in your engine which could of caused that screen to clog.
clean it and you should be fine.
