Default header gasket leak....

SO i borrowed my cousins car which he has just got a swap a b16a with a fully built head and i noticed when i was driving it that when i would step on it, it would make a strange noise like a if there was a leak so i popped the hood and messed with the throttle and noticed the noise was coming from the headers so i checked even closer and noticed that it has no gasket! so its metal to metal, but my point is that is this why the car is running kinda sluggish? any sugg will be helpful?
