Noise around 1K-2K RPM
I just installed a DC Sports 4-2-1 Ceramic Coated Header into my 1999 Civic EX and when I am driving at low RPM's there is a weird noise coming from underneath the car. It is not an exhaust leak because once I get above 2K RPM or give the car more gas, the sound will go away. The sound is kind of annoying when cruising but it isn't too loud. I think its the rubber donut gasket but some people say it is just the way the header sounds.
BTW: I re-used my rubber donut gasket.

Does it sound like a rattle? I have a 4-2-1 header on my car and it gives me a slight rattle at 2300rpm and a pretty annoying one at 3k-3.5k. Anywhere else on the rpm sounds fine.

mine does it on my b16. i think its just the way it is. i have had the rattle for a long time now, and i have no problems. so it cant be anything serious. its probably just that the gasket is slightly too small and so the metal rattles.

I have DC sprot headers too and mine just started doin the exact same thing today, it sounds like metal ratlling right? Mine does it from 2k - 2500rpm I'm goin in about an hour to have it checked out. I'll post any info I get on it.

^yup, mine sounds very annoying. I don't really have any heat shields loose. I'm thinking it's the connection where the header meets the b-pipe.

I dont know why but when I was about to take mine in I noticed it went away, kinda weird but I have them check something thats not happening... But if it happens again I'll bring it right in and find out.

Yeah it does sound like a rattle, but it doesn't sound like metal too much. Maybe its just a very small piece, so thats why it isn't loud. I think I am gonna check everything and replace the donut gasket and see what happens.
Thanks

Re: (chowmien)
i had a dc 4-2-1 installed on my last civic by a honda acura peformance shop, so it was done professionally, and it changed the sound of the entire muffler system, sounds like its got a slight hole, i think that it just does that, what you hear changes because of the amount of air and how its being pushed through

Ok I put the stock exhaust manifold back on it and it definitley got rid of the annoying rattle throughout my rpm range. But now I have an exhaust leak at the downpipe to the b-pipe connection. Gotta get that fixed now.

I think thats probably it. I took a ride in it today and when i was in my garage I reved it to 2K and it sounded fine, but as soon as a back out and gave it gas in first you could hear it. Also, the noise doesn't really seem like metal hitting, it sounds more like a farty exhaust sound or something. I don't think anythings wrong with the cat-back I have because it sounded great before the header. I will check everything and if nothings happens, then I guess thats just how it sounds...But don't get me wrong, once I get higher up in the powerband, the car sounds really good.

Re: Noise around 1K-2K RPM (itr_eg)
I would just think that if it was something rattling or valvetrain noiise, then it would increase in noise as i go through the powerband, but the noise cease after 2K-2.5K.
Also, you don't really hear this "noise" in first gear too much, its mainly 3rd, 4th, and 5th when i hear it the most.

I got a 93 del sol with a DC sports header and I have a have noise mostly in 1st gear from 700 rpm to 1.5k rpm then again above 2.5k rpm, it comes from beneath the car almost like the exhaust, on my car it's a lifter problem......don't know if that helps or not

Re: Noise around 1K-2K RPM (Threads)
I have the same problem too but mine is a little different. mine sounds like there's a slight hole there or something... on cold starts, everytime i shift gears i can hear pssst... psssst.... like i got a bov but not as loud only in 1,2,3 gears. but when my car is warmed up i don't here it anymore but still notice that it sounds like there is a slight hole where my header meets my test pipe. i've changed donut gaskets already and still have this problem.

Re: Noise around 1K-2K RPM (Phatch99)
I get a little rattling noise too in 1st and 2nd gear at like 1-2k RPM, after that its fine, from the drivers seat its sounds like its forward and to the right of me under the car, my cars setup is completely stock with the exception of some 17" wheels.
any ideas anyone?

Re: Noise around 1K-2K RPM (clockcycle)
Now me and a friend are almost convinced that its coming from under the car. The sound also seems like it is getting magnified through the muffler. Maybe an exhaust leak, but like i said, I would think an exhaust leak would get louder throught the powerband. So I am gonna change my donut gasket and re-torque the bolts on the head whenever I get the chance.
