Knock Sensor Help
I have a 93 Si that has the check engine light come on periodically. i did the paperclip test and the code is 23 which i was told by the honda dealer is a knock sensor. They never looked at the car but suggested replacing the sensor. I just wanted to know if anyone has had this code before and if just replacing the sensor is what i need to do or if the knock sensor is saying i have a knock somewhere that needs to be fixed and the sensor itself is fine. little tight on money right now and paying 200buxs for a sensor that wont solve the problem isnt what i want to do right now...
Also if someone has had the same problem and i have to replace the sensor where is it located?

the KS is under the intake manifold in the middle of the block. kind of a bitch to get to.
but you're right that doesnt neccesarily mean that the sensor is bad. maybe someone here knows a way to test them.
hows the car run otherwise?

Heres a pic of where its at. I just broke mine while takin the IM off. The sensor should be on the part w/ the hole in the middle, as I said I broke it off. This is lookin up from the bottom and its right above the oil filter. You could look on ebay and hope to get a good one. I did to save a few bucks, plus I gotta roll the dice cuz I aint got 115 to blow either.
The car runs fine. the engine doesn't have any kind of knock or abnormal ticking sound to it which is why im leaning towards just replacing the sensor. thanks for the pic to djbrandonr.
also, just curious if you still drove your car before you got it fixed or not. i dont know what the whole role of this sensor is so could not having it cause any kind of damage to the engine?
oh, and to add to the bad luck this week i also had my rear tire blow out on the way home from dinner tonight

Im still drivin the car right now. I wont have the sensor for a few more days. Drives fine for me right now, partilly maybe because I live at high altitude and lower octanes run like higher ones. Ive heard some people say it'll have bad low end power and still be running in limp mode. Driveable though
i have a spare KS if anyone wants it. $15 shipped... i'm sick of it rolling around on my desk. it came off a blown ebay motor i got and i've never used it but it looks to be good from the outside.
