Default Catch Can Question *searched*

what's the difference between a homeade or ebay style catch can? I can either buy or build one for roughly about the same price. I'm just curious which route everyone recommends and why. Here's pictures of what the two look like ...

Homeade (HomeDepot Style)

eBay

Does it really help having one of these?
Or it's just an engine ornament?!

It really doesnt do much for NA, unless you are putting down serious power. But for boost applications, imo its a must.

I actually like the HD one better. Looks like it's just a dryer for an air compressor

Sorry for the stupid question,, But exactly is the purpose of having one? I know of plenty of turbo cars that are not using a catch can. What do they do?

oil catch can? they catches motor oil from the PVC, the oil blow by could coat the intake manifold with oil film, which is not exactly healthy for the motor.

it's alot worst when you have any type of FI, my intake manifold was soaked with oil when the turbo seal went south.

alot of S2k guys are running one, the F20c are known for burning oil and sludge build up.

I just finished installing the catch can.

HD catch can 12
1/4 M fitting(x2) 3
4 feet of vaccum hose 3.5
SS clamps(x4) 2.5

couple of thing i like about the HD catch can, the thing is directionaly design, there's a baffle(so no oil will get sucked back), it's clear(well, so you know when to drain it), there's a check valve on the lower section(which you could drain it without taking the whole thing out and undo all the bolts and zip ties), plus its small and less bling(which i like )

Did i mention the 85 dollar cusco/greddy and all the cheap ebay junk/knock off are not baffled?

I mounted the catch can under my throttle cable holder, there's two screw hole predrilled for the husky/home depot catch can, so you don't have to drill the thing.

not bad for a 30 buck project

Here the pictures

PVC valve to catch can to intake manifold(the correct way)

mounted

So clean(for now)
