Small scratches in main journal
So, I finally pulled the crank out of the B18A1 that I got from a shop around here, then melted a piston. I was going to use it for my current engine build, butttttt... on the number 3 main journal, there are a few scratches that catch your fingernail. They aren't huge, but they are definitely there. This motor ran awesome.. no spun bearings, no knocking.. nothing. Everything was very tight when we took it apart, too (no minor jiggling, etc).
I went ahead and cleaned up the journal and used some 1500 grit and some solvent with a shoe string just to clean it up to see how bad it was (also did it on the #4 rod journal, as that's the piston that melted-- wanted to make sure it was okay, which it is).. the scratches aren't coming out with this method. I'm not sure if I were to take it to a machine shop if their micropolishing would take it out or not.
Since the engine that this crank was in had been running for a long *** time with NO problems, would it be okay for my to assemble my new engine with it as long as all the clearances are in check?
P.S. The bearings that come out of the motor were PERFECT.
HELPPPPPPP.. I want to start assembling ^^
