ok well my trans is goin bad and i have been calling junk yards saying the following...

1996 Honda Civic EX
manual trans

then they ask me
2dr, 4dr, HB
base, vtec, vtec E

i thought all EX models had the same trans? like the 2dr and 4dr EX are the same? am i wrong? whats the deal here????? i need a manual trans for a 96 ex, and one of the guys WANTED to argue that all the transmissions are different for a d16y8 on a 2dr compared to a 4dr......WTFFFFFFF

 

All D16Y8's have the same tranny, and all D16Y7/Y5's have the same tranny. It's probably just a formality, like when you go to the honda dealer for parts they ask what trim level/body style etc. Either that or all the guy's dogs aren't barking.
