got caught slippin
recently my 5th gen prelude was broken into and they tried to steal it but only managed to really damage my steering colum. I got a new colum with a new key and replaced it but it still wouldn't start, I took it to the dealer and was told they dont know whats wrong with it and few hundred bucks later and I still dont have my lude running. Does anyone know if the key needs to be recoded or anything like that? I had the distributor, relays, fuses, ecu I mean I've had everything checked and cant figure it out.

God damn California sucks.
Luckily, no one has tried to break into my car - but then again, it looks like ****. And the interior is stripped. Guess thats a good theft deterrent.

OBD2 came out in 96.... Shall I continue or just say its a 5th gen lude theft detterent thing... 1997-2001 immobilizers in 5th gen ECU's...
Likelyhood of the whole matter is they damaged the immobilizer wiring under the dash... It actually runs up to the key lock cylinder and all the way to the ECU... I doubt the dealership is dumb enough to not match up a key with immobilizer to the proper ECU.. But, thats a second possibility as people at dealerships usually are not very smart at all... No offense to anyone who works at one, but you will have to agree your co-workers are dumb as ****...

no need to elaborate, I know 1996=obd2a. those p13's are in high demand for anyone who does an obd2 h22 swap specifically because it doesn't use an immobilizer.

OBD2...
The immobilizer feature is not common to all new cars... Its just an add on safety feature...

OK so you say you have a new column and key? Was the new key programed to match with the immobilizer? If not that could be the problem.
The red key is used to program new keys (at the dealership), but never use it in the ignition.
