Default Cam Decision....

I have a 00 jdm itr motor that needs a nice cam. I was looking into the bcIII+ cam but was told with my itr valvetrain i could run the iv and be fine. But problem im seeing is that the bcIII' is more mid-range then up top and with a 8400 redline and 4.7 final drive when i down-shift or racing from a dig my car will never see less then 6k rpm so wouldnt the bc 3 be worthless then? Wouldnt i be better off getting a cam that makes 6-8400 scream?

Which cam-shaft and cam-gear's do you reccomend for alot of power between 6-8400 as thats the only rpm range my motor will see during a race'

Stock 00 jdm itr motor, 11:1 compression, i/h/e, hondata, msd, e-cut out and so fourth....

thats the kinda info im looking for

now with the skunk's will i need to upgrade the valvetrain or raise my compression? I know i need to eventually upgrade the valvetrain and i plan on doing that in a couple months. But for now im looking for a nice cam to throw in before i get it re-tuned here in a few week's

sense the 4.7 final drive and 6-8.4k rpm power-band it seems pre-vtec power would be useless in the sense of an actual race so im looking for other option's and more opinions on the matter

You might want to think about the Skunk2 stage 1's. I've been running these on my stock valvetrain for about 2 years with no problem. Do you have any kind of engine management?

walbro 255 fuel pump, aem adjustable fpr and hondata with a chipped p28 ecu'

ive done alot of research but theres just too many damm cam's out there for me to make a decision, just want something that will work with stock valvetrain and make good power during the vtec powerband

i just dont wanna throw in a cam i "heard" was good only to lose power or barely make any +gains on the dyno

last dyno while over-heating it made 179whp/134tq.......now i have more mods and adding cam's/gear's and not over-heating any-more

Seriously consider the S2S1's. I have basically the same setup as you and I made 196whp and 131tq with these cams, the only difference is I have bigger injectors. They pull hard on the top end!!

i wouldnt rev past 8500 even with stg 1's. valve springs are an insurance those cams have bigger lobes then stock and i wouldn chance droppin a valve.

addictive

can you post your set-up and results with the s2s1's and what gear's/injectors you used and so fourth?

why'd you upgrade injectors? Arnt the stockers good for over 210whp? or was i mis-informed?

so far i have...

00 jdm itr motor
complete msd system w/coil
hondata w/chipped p28 ecu
e-cut out w/y pipe right after header
jdm header
cf intake
aem adjustbale fpr
walbro 255

need....cam's and adjustable cam gear'

think thats everything...

Ok, here ya go......

98 spec JDM ITR
Badly dented DC 4-1 header ( Just got a DTR, going for a tune tomorrow)
RC 440 injectors
Walbro 255 fuel pump
AEM cam gears
AEM fpr
S2S1 cams
Hondata

Again 196whp 131tq.......going to break 200 this weekend with the DTR header

I went with the bigger injectors just to give my tuner more flexability.
