aem v2 for ep3
just ordered the aem v2 intake for the ep3. has anyone dyno'd their car before and after installing this. aem claims some pretty sweet numbers, i'm just a bit skeptical.....
aem's stuff has always been good to me, i have no complaints, 17whp from just an intake seems like a lot. i look at dyno sheets all day that have had the "correction" factors manipulated so i have a hard time believing alot of manufacturers claims. if it really adds that much, that's f'n awesome, just tells me honda left lots on the table. we'll see.
Those numbers are not accurate. If you look at the dyno again those numbers are with intake, header and exhaust added.
Actually the AEM V2 is one of the weaker intakes out for the EP3. It claims to be a CAI(Cold Air Intake) when in fact it is a short ram for the EP3.
A CAI will always be superior to a short ram due to the intake being further out of the engine bay thus pulling in cooler air. The best intake out for the EP3 appears to be the Injen 1476(I think that's the number). That is a true CAI that has been dyno'ed by multiple sources to increase whp anywhere from 9 to 13hp from the intake alone.
Of course short ram is the way to go if you happen to live in an area where the threat of hydrolock is a possibility. If you don't live in a place where it rains constantly, snows or will force you drive through puddles often the you should be fine with a CAI. I almost bought a V2 until I researched it further.
My Injen 1476 is awesome!
Hope that helps.

yeah, an intake it's just that...an intake. The filter is what really matters.
CAI's are your best bet, since they are tuck'd away from the engine heat. But w/ this you are in a risk of Hydrolocking.
good luck on v2.

yeah the cold air is always going to be much better. Personally I think the V2 is wayy overpriced
But as stated if you live in an area with the threat of hydrolock then be careful with your selection.
I love me aem cold air!

This is almost accurate. But does not account for motion. CAI is only better under ~15 mph. After that bay temperatures approximate ambient... at which point, SRI rules.
