Default Good Deal on 98 Hatch

Ive been lookin around ALOT on this forum for a good few weeks, and i finally decided to start posting, i was wondering if $3500.00 is good for a 98 Hatch, black on black, VERY good condition, its got 80,000 miles on engine (cluster shows 160,000) The only problem with the car is it was a PREVIOUS salvage title. The car is all stock exept for an exhaust system (no rocket crap, it sounds NICE). Its clothi interior, and is a manual transmission. Let me know. Also, one last question. How much do you think it would cost to put in an ex engine in there? (so it at least has vtec) im not asking the price of labor, (havin a friend help me put it in...) but how much do you think i could find a vtec engine for, one thatll fit without many modifications (body mods that is) i know i would need to rewire ect..... Thanks again! - Alex

I would sell you my almost bone stock '97 (w/ 120k miles) for that if you weren't on the other side of the country.

Thats a really good deal. But you shouldn't swap in another D-series, VTEC or not. D16Y8 are barely quicker than D16Y7. You'd be a lot better off swapping in a B-series. If you wanna go the cheaper route, get a B18B and get the head ported since that is their week point because they don't have VTEC. VTEC isn't all its cracked up to be.

i dont have enought money for a b-series, i would wanna keep the swap as simple as possible too, how much $ u think i would be lookin at to get a vtec, d16y8 (thats the vtec one correct?) i dont want to go all crazy and get a b series, cause i wouldnt be able to afford it, and i also dont want to blow that motor (i plan to abuse the crap outa motor. lol) thats why i want a d series, its cheap (under a grand {ihope}) and i could get easy replacement..... i dont plan on doin much to the car, most mods will probably be interior and exterior, i just want a car that i can use as daily driver, and beat the crap outa the engine when i need it..... i dont plan on even doing intake (for now, its WAY too obnoctious on stock cars, it make it *sound* faster than it actually is. lol.)

If you like hatchies, get it or regret it. if it is indeed in the condition that you described.

get a used y8 swap for like 3-500, turbo it, and have a ball.

Get it! i love my 98 hatch. You dont even need an entire motor, just find a Y8 head and ecu, run the wires for vtec and you're all set. Y8 isnt much quicker than a Y7? My buddy had intake, header, and exhaust on his Z6 and managed a 15.2 in his 93 si. For the money, its totally worth it to throw a Y8 head on there for a little extra pep. specially for the people who dont have a couple grand to blow on a B-series.

cool man, good luck. Y8 heads arent expensive.. i just bought a head with Intake Mani, Throttle body, Valve cover, fuel rail, all i need is dizzy and injectors and i got it for 150. ECU, i still have yet to buy one so im not sure how much they go for. You need a P2P.

how much do they usually run? maybe i will buy it, sell it there and get a 99 or 00 so that i wouldnt have to change the front and the ac controls... ( i like the newer stuff WAY better...) has anybody ever gotten one off auction?? and if so, how bad was it, how much did it run ya.... im looking into a cheap, daily driver, that looks nice, and drives nice too.... i dont mind if its got salvage title, cause i plan on keeping it till it dies. then rebuild it again.. also, anybody know where i can get those rota slipstreams like everyones runnin, i know everyone has them, but i believe its cause they look so dam good!! how much do they usually run? im at skool, so i cant really search withought getting told to get off. lol. thanks again for all the help!

I would too, if there were such a thing.

Nothing wrong with Mini mes. I've heard of plenty of slightly modded mini mes keeping up with gsr's and **** like that no problem. For half the cost. Not to mention D-series motors last FOREVER
