4.4 open diff Vs. 4.266 LSD
I'm hybridizing a transmisson. specs:
b16a 1,2,3,4
GSR 5th
now comes the option of final drive. these are my ONLY options: 4.4 final with regular b16a diff.
OR
4.266 final with LSD.
i have heard people say 'you dont want that 4.266 final etc' so im trying to gather input from others. esp. if you have real world experance with both.
THANKS!

will the lsd fit on the 4.4 f.d.? i'm sure you've checked though

obviously in the all motor world you would always want the shorter geared ratio (but bigger in numbers for the noobs out there
)
so 4.4 fd
why not just go for the cusco 5.0 FD
is this street driven or drag?
ats 4.9 fd is Sweet on the streets but that 5.0 doesn't look to bad for drag!!!!
Also, if you haven't heard quaiffe is making a 4.7 and maybe a 4.9 fd, and probably be backed up by their warranty, but release date is yet to be known

it sounds like hes got a cable trans. the y1 with LSD is the one with 4.266 FD. def get the 4.4
but to everyone out there saying "get quaffe" etc. realize the lack of support for these trannies. y1 was 90-91. i dont think anyone makes a FD or LSD for these trannies. i THINK ats might, but thats $$$. unless someone can prove me wrong. remember the 90-91 cable trans are different then 92+. theres plenty of support for 92+, both cable and hydro, but no love for the 90-91.

Why can't the fd's be switched? A b16 4.4 and ls 4.2 have the same bolt pattern. And yes Quaife does make a diff for cable trannies I have one in my S1 and I love it. According to their website all b16 and ls, cable and hydraulic have the same part # 60.309.160
