Default is it safe to raise compression with a thinner head gasket?

i have to take my head off and am wondering is it safe to raise compression with a thinner head gasket? like could problems arise?

i heard that messing with the compression can cause problems, but i would think that if anything it would only raise the compression slightly?

has anyone done this, and if so how thin do you go?

p.s. if it matters i am going to get the car tuned not sure if air fuel affect compression.

it's safe as long as you check for adequate valve clearance, and you don't bump the compression up to absurdly high numbers

Yeah, the slightly higher compression won't be a problem, but you will need to check for clearance since the valves are now closer to the pistons.

Ya it's fine just check for clearance.

Shouldn't be a problem, a thinner headgasket won't raise compression nearly that much to be concerned about knock or anything the like.

You can clay the engine, but that's not 100% because higher rpms may create tighter clearances.

good point.

I suggest you clay the engine, and add 5% to compensate for higher RPMs

if i use clay do i have to put it together, then run it , take it apart and check the clay looking 4 clearence and then put it all back together again?

is there any other less time -consuming way?

i have an oem gasket and i hear that you can take out the middle layer to make it slightly thinnner, if i do this would it be okay or would it be safer to run the clay test?
