Default Accord versus Prelude

Ok, here is the scenario... you have a 6th gen Accord coupe 5spd with an H22a versus a 5th gen Prelude 5spd (or a 4th gen), same engine, both are stock. Of the two cars, which one would most likely out-perform the other one suspension-wise? I'm trying to get a good comparison between the two, but since I really love the Accords (especiall the 6th and 7th gen coupes) and I love the Preludes, I have a tough time deciding which one to go after. Ultimatelly I will make my own decision, but I would like some input with regards to the suspension system of both cars. Thanks in advance!

prelude will always be lighter.

even with the h22, the 6th gen will still not be up the level.

but the accord is bigger=bigger interior, the styling is everyone's taste

accord is more car than prelude, not saying that prelude isn't good, but saying that it is more ride than a prelude. It is roomy, it is nice, comfortable and it is an Accord... so... yeah.. Accord is more...

if both engines and trans are the same, the prelude will be faster (it is lighter), it will ride stiffer and be more cramped.

I have ridden in a prelude and it is a very cramped car compared to the accord (expecially the 6th gen accord)

The cramped part might not be great for me then, since I am about 5'10" 165lbs... I love my girlfriend's dad's Infiniti G35 coupe... but I literally hit my head on the ceiling when we go over a bump! I saw that the curb weight of a 5th gen Prelude is 2954lbs while a 6th gen Accord coupe is 2943lbs, so the Accord is lighter there, but factor in all fluids, accessories, driver weight (lucky me I'm not heavy), it might be heavier.

Suspension wise though, say with an aftermarket suspension... which car would more likely come out on top? Engine-wise, its the same so that becomes less of a factor. However, though I do not know about the Prelude engine bay, my guess is the Accord's is bigger, so I might have more room for a bigger turbo manifold + turbo and I think better heat flow.

And yes, I think the Accord is a very sexy car and I would be reluctant to give up my 2000 Accord DX for anything but another Accord.

Also, the H22 engine and tranny might be lighter than the F23, so that could shave off a few pounds, giving the Accord the edge.

The base model 5th gen Prelude weighs almost the same as a 6th gen LX, 4-cyl, MT coupe. ~2950 lbs is very lenient. They're both actually about 100 lbs heavier (based off Honda's specs). Stock to stock, suspension wise, the Prelude would dominate. If both cars were equipped with aftermarket suspensions (and let's just say for argument's sake they allowed for the maximum potential of each chassis), then I'd say it could be a pretty even match. Of course, this is assuming that both cars have stock H22s.

The weight difference (if any) between the H22 and F23 wouldn't be enough to actually notice.

Oh, and btw, I'm a little taller than you and fit just fine in a Prelude.

That helps me out a good bit. The better stock performance is right now better for me, since being a gymnastics coach doesn't have the greatest pay. Your advise is greatly appreciated! I just have to keep my eye out for a good deal on 4th-5th gen Prelude or a 6th gen Accord coupe and get what I can afford.

i myself love the body of the 4th gen but the 5th gen interior owns, I'd say you're best bet is a 5th gen sedan, or coupe if its only you and a friend driving

I've always preferred the 6th gen. body over the previous generations, but I really don't remember the interior of the 5th gen. even though we used to have one... too bad it was a lease though... I'm just keeping my eye out for whatever I can get, I just like knowing what the possibilities are and what each car is capable of.

I have a 6th gen and a 5th gen and the 6th gen accord is MUCH nicer on the inside than the 5th gen...

Both are quality interiors but the 6th gen is alot better in how it looks.

The 6th gen. has a very clean layout, I do like how the 5th gen Prelude looks too. However... not really a big fan of the 4th gen. Prelude interior. Too bad beggars can't be choosers, cause I'd take any of those if I could afford one

i think you need to stop sitting straight up with such good posture.

i am 6' and fit fine in the g35, and my friend who owns the g35 is like 6'4", we both have no trouble driving the car. adn we dont hit our heads on bumps either

Ah the good posture is just the gymnast within me... though I've never been in the drivers seat

I biased towards the prelude but it was rated the best handling car under 30k. I think it was in 98 or so. But that definitely tells you something.

As an Accord lover, I can honestly say that I think the 5th gen Prelude is much sexier than the 6th gen Accord coupe. In any case, I'd take the sedan over either of them

I currently have a 6th gen. sedan, and I absolutelly love it, even if it is the DX. I am a bit biased towards coupes because I rode around in a lot of Jaguar XK8 and XJS, MGA's and MGB's, pretty much mostly British 2 doors thanks to my grandfather. The 6th gen. sedan is my favorite of the sedans, but I place it in 3rd, 6th gen. coupe in 2nd, and 7th gen. coupe in first. I'd say the 5th gen Prelude ties for 2nd though.

i dunno about you, but hate coupes, when it comes to back passsengers. used to have a 6th gen coupe and it was annoying when letting ppl on and off. if i ever get a coupe again, its going to be a 2 seater,

Same here. Screw driving all my friends around all the time because I have room.
