Default new short block question

Is a new short block (not rebuilt) bolted to the head of a type R with 100,000km considered pratically a new engine? Does a new short block add value to the type R or does it devalue it since its not "original" to the car?

I'd say it adds value if you don't sell it.

Someone buying it may want it to be original. But since it is a car with around 62,000miles I doubt someone interested in buying it will turn it down because its not original.

shortblock is basically all the guts of the engine, aslong as the head was properly machined, I don't see why not.

Yes, i would consider it a brand new engine, if the head was done aswell that is

Actually, I beg to differ. Anytime you have a motor/chasis that do not match numbers, you have 'devalued' the car. The primary reason for that is simple = it requires explanation.

There are certainly exceptions to every rule, but having grown up in the car business there are definately fewer buyers that would pay the same amount (let alone even more??) for a rebuilt stock motor in a car than would pay for a neutral matching car. Most people will immediately ask themselves "what else has gone wrong or is about to if the motor couldn't handle his driving".

This is no 'dig' on the owner. I'm simply stating some car facts. Again - if you find an exception, be extremely happy & cash the check.

I agree with the BudMan. If it were me buying a car, I'd want the original engine in it. But now I'm contradicting myself, because I just bought my wrecked R with a new motor. Why? Because it was not going to be a DD, and for racing a fresh engine is better.

Id prefer to have a fresh brand new engine, rather then one with 20-60k miles.

Aslong as there is a good explanation why it was changed, then whats the big deal. its a huge plus.
