What causes this?? Bearing Carnage
my friend took his car to the track and made one good pass, then the next pass, started knocking. it didnt break up or detonate going down the track nothing abnormal sounding or feeling. on return road is when he started hearing it. these are OEM honda bearings. 650whp. but more like 450 on this pass. low boost. Spun about 1/4 of the way. didnt damage the crank, just put some black marks in it that have already been polished out. New rods and bearings going tomorrow.

the crank looks like it did when he installed the rods except it was tinted. He already polished that ****, took about 2 minutes.

Have you measured it? The last one I did this to looked fine, but was undersized by almost .010".

this has happened before, i think the rod was fucked up after that and caused this again. teh first time, it remeasured fine and clearanced fine too. new rods going in. the surface of the crank did not even get scratched.
i didnt forget assembly lube, if the motor ran for a few months already, assembly lube had nothing to do with it. brand new oil pump as of 3 weeks ago. but my old one was going bad causing some bearing rattle, it could have jump started this problem. Clearances were well within spec.

I agree, It surely got hot.. Put another bearing in and plastigauge it, if its in spec then just go with it..

yes, and do NOT reuse the crank with that much bearing damage or you will be wasting time and money.
