d16z6 bottom end with d16y7 head
I am planning to do d16z6 bottom end with d16y7 head, what timing belt would i have to use. The reason for this is i have to get the car up and running, so it doesn't just sit, i will put a z6 head on later, just need to do this as a temporary solution, i know this isn't the best combo, but it will have to do for now. thanks

This is interesting. I was under the impression that you use all the bolts for the head?

it's confusing. I'll try to explain
All 88-95 bolts are the same. But the corner where the vtec soleniod is (or would be if you had a vtec head) on the 88-95 heads is raised. Because the threads aren't as far into the block as all the other 9 bolts are. I think it's because of the coolant line that runs here? Not sure.
But if you have the head off of a 88-95 block and drop the head bolts into the the threads (without threading them) you will see that the one in the passenger rear sticks out higher than the rest.
Also, if you look at the cylinder heads from 88-95 you will see that the hole surface is raised on this particular head bolt, to keep the mechanic from accident mixing the bolts up and screwing the threads up, etc. So to most this is completely unseen.
96-00 blocks have all the threads the same depth as the 1 oddball thread on the 88-95 block. so the 96-00 heads use shorter bolts. without the raised portion on the cylinder head like the single bolt that the 88-95 had.
I had to order one single d16y5 bolt when I put my d16y5 head on my d15 block. The d15 bolts were too long for this one hole.
Basically if you're using a 96-00 d-series head on a 88-95 d-series block you use 9 bolts from the 88-95 and 1 bolt from the 96-00 head.
if you're using a 88-95 head on a 96-00 block, (like z6 head on a y7) you will need 9 96-00 head bolts and one 88-95 bolt.
9 bolts from whatever block you're using, and 1 bolt from whatever head you're using
if you're using a d16z6 head on a d15b7/d15b8/d15b2/ block. that d16z6 bolt is the same as a d15b7/d15b8/d15b2/d15whatever bolt so you're oblivious to the issue.
