Default engine swap but now wont start period

Hey, the shop called and said they put the engine in and it wont start, they called me to ask if it was running before it gave up. What could it be? i asked if it was the starter, but the guy thinks it might be the distributor, which sounds reasonable but why would it go the same time, i heard the cranking and stuff when the old engine was in it and i tried to start it again so doeesnt that mean the distributor is working?

They said theyd call me back later, but i wanna know what you guys think

sorry i forgot the stats, my bad

92 accord ex AT recieving a F22a4 motor from a 91 EX

What kind of "shop" do you have your car at that can't seem to diagnose a no-start?

I assume this is the same shop (I believe you said PepBoys in your other thread) that you took your car to before when the timing belt broke?

The more and more you post about this shop the more I question their abilities. You figure they would have figured out the problem then called you.

Anyway, did the F22A4 engine come with the distributor? If so, is that what your using? Maybe try swapping to the distributor off the F22A6, they should be the same.

You said the guy that you bought the motor from had changed the timing belt before he sent it to you right? Did they double check the timing marks to make sur everything is aligned correctly?

Deffinately post back with what they say before you say yes or no.

Ask them if they connected the ground on the thermostat housing. That's a common mistake that will keep it from starting.

i got the guy who sold it to me to call pep boys, he told me it might just need a valve adjustment, which he said is no big deal.

good... i guess?

A valve would be a click, not a knock. Valve adjustments aren't hard, so go ahead and do one and see if it helps.

You need to get your car out of that grease monkey shop and take it somewhere that knows what side is up on a Honda

yea i got it today, it deff didnt sound good. It would idle itself to a turn off, but i notice its not reving itself anymore so it could be the idle air control? anyhow that knocking doesnt sound good so im gonna give a good call to that guy who sold it to me try to see what the hell is up. I paid for the swap and left it in the parking lot, i just wanted it out of there.

wow, I hope you didn't get a bum motor

What you wrote was a little hard for me to understand (maybe cause I'm tired) Does it have a bad idle? Can it hold idle or does it die? What do you mean by it doesn't rev itself? So it's deffinately a knock and not a click/tick sound? It's not rod knock is it? Did the shop double check everything on the motor like the timing marks and such before they installed it?

No i didnt have any tools on me when i went there, but it started up and sounds a lot better, i left it on for a while, reved it drove it around the parking lot, didnt stall at all. i started it up again before i left and i heard a clicking noise sounding like it was coming from the drivers side under the hood, i didnt have a chance to take it over fifteen cuz i had to stay in the parking lot, my temp tags are expired and i dont want it to give up on me in the heavy traffic that was there, I'm going to go back later tonight and try to take it back to my campus, I did get throttle body cleaner and a repair manual for a 4th gen and im ready to start tinkering.

It also looked like it wasnt fluctuating rpms at if all if any, i thik it went from 1000 - 1400 for like a second but that was it, maybe the motor needed time to adjust to the other parts? i have no clue

The tachometer seems to be reading about a steady 1000 at idle, is this normal?

1000 - 1500 idle is normal when the engine is cold

once warmed up it shoule be around 750 - 850

Drove it back to campus, no problems, while in the parking it did start to rev itself once but none other time. I heard that clicking noise on the driver side but it sounded fine once i got it up to 50 mph. It did shake more than my other honda and the exhuast sput out air irregularly i think, it sounded louder and faster at idle, like someone messed with the muffler.

When it was off i heard a whirring start right away, was this a cooling fan? this sound would stop then come back on and did that less and less until it didnt come on any more, iv heard this on other accords so i assume its the cooling fan but i dont know
