So i was drivin home from work the other day, I have a b16 in my hatch...I was in third and decided to hit vtec and i just happened to look in my rear view mirror. Next thing i know while i was in vtec there was some smoke coming out of my exhaust.

General Rule of Thumb: Smoke is Bad.
However, there are some exceptions to the rule. What color was the smoke? How long did it bellow out for? Does this always happen? We need some details, bro.

black smoke is caused by a rich a/f ratio. its somewhat normal to see a puff on a higher mileage or abused engine. my first suggestion would be a full tune up, if that doesnt help do a seafoam treatment.
