So i've got a 98 hatch, all stock Y7 with 156,600 miles on it. Since i bought it with 140,000 i've done the basic tuneup, plugs wires cap and rotor. Air filter also. Every once in a while under load i'll get a random misfire. I popped out the plugs and its most likely occurring in cylinder 3, because thats the dirtiest plug and prettymuch teh only cylinder with carbon on top of the pistons(the others are actually really clean!)... Correct me if im wrong, i belive 3 is the second one in from the left? So anyway that happens every once in a while, and just yesterday i make a 3 hour drive to upstate new york. i get there and shut the car off for a few minutes, then turn it back on to move it. im going up a hill and she totally dies on me. so i put the clutch in and started it up again, and died right away. so i pulled the ebrake, let it sit for a minute, started it back up and havent had the problem since. I had 3 quarters of a tank when this happened on the hill. I made the drive back home today, and had no problems. My guess is that maybe the igniter is starting to go? Any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance.
how about the TPS(throttle position sensor)...its more of an air/fuel issue, but seems to be a random act. the tps gets worn at a frequently used rpm...computer gets confused..shuts down. you try it aminute later...good to go.
