A/C Problem & Question
i have a 00 accord v6. well as you guys know its almost summer. Well i went to check on my A/C and noticed it wasnt cooling about a week ago. So today i decided to get some Freon to suck into the comprosser. Well i went to auto zone and The guy goes your comprossor dont work Im like WTF it worked all summer and 4times in the winter.
What can i do before i put a hole in my wallet?
what can i check ?
And is it possible to do it yourself ?
Thanks

the guy said theres supposed to be a clicking noise when it turns on or w/e but there isnt. all it does is pull air from the outside when its on. Like if u drive it gets cooler but if the car is at idle t gets warm agian
forget what the guy said for a moment.....
Does the compressor cycle on and off? The easiest way to tell is sit in the car, start it up with the a/c off, turn on a/c and you should the engine labor a little when the compressor kicks in sort of like this
e=Engine running
C= A/C compressor turning on
eeeeeCCCCCeeeeeeCCCCCCeeeeeeCCCCCC
IF your compressor is cycling on and off, the the system is low and you need to get it checked out and repaired. After repairs are made, you need to test to see if it can hold a vaccum for at least 12 hrs. Once it can, recharge with approperiate amt of r143a.

Idle should change smoothly when the A/C engages and disengages.
I bet your system is low on freon due to a leak and the most likely culprit is usually the condensor in the front of the car.........

Before you start taking stuff apart check amount of refrigerant with a gauge. Your A/C compressor will lock up may not even cut on if it is low on refrigerant.
Have the car running, look at your a/c compressor, see if you can see the clutch catch. You said the car changes idle, when a/c is on. Thats normal, seems like compressor is kicking on, or locking up. If you are out of 134a(freon) the compressor will kick on at least twice in 5 sec. It should at least once in 10 sec.
P.S. (look for tiny metal shavings around compressor clutch....thats not good at all)
Chem mogu tem pomogu.

yo amigo,, if you are out of freon the compressor WILL NOT kick on at all..

did you ever loosen any lines to release the old freon?if you did then you cannot do this procedure at home.you need to evacuate the system before charging.even if you think it's charged there's air in the system not all freon.
