Ok guys, over the past few days I swapped a GSR into a EG DX. Well all went well, the motor runs and drives. My problem is when Im driving it it throws a CEL. Well this is my first time really playin with a OBD1 car. I know in order to check the CEL you have to loop the jumper that is in the passenger side floor board. Well I looped that jumper with a paperclip and put the car in the ON position and the check engine light comes on, then turns back off, like it would normally.
- How do I get an OBD1 car to show me what codes its throwing??
Also, when I was out driving it I got on it a little bit and VTEC engaged... I have no idea why it engaged because its throwing a CEL. PLUS I haven't wired up VTEC yet. Anyone know why? Only thing I can think of is this ECU has to be chipped. And I know it should be throwing at least ONE code because I only have one O2 sensor hooked up...
Any help guys?
Thanks!

Check and recheck all of your wiring. If you don't have any of the VTEC wires hooked up it should not enguage. If you are running an USDM OBDII ecu you will most likely be throwing the code for the secondary o2.
Does the CEL stay solid the whole time once it comes on? Does it stay on if you turn the car off than on? If it does then you should have no problem pulling it by jumping the harness.
Good Luck!

did you use your stock engine harness? if you did and you are running a UNCHIPPED ecu, they you are probably throwing a Knock sensor code. so you might wanna check that.
i'm not 100% sure, but that's my 2 cents

Ok guys, I got everything running great. I had to change out the thermostat and fix a massive exhaust leak and fix the speed sensor plug but its running great now. There isn't any codes that Im aware of either.
**BUT**
When the car is driving it will randomly throw a CEL. and when I turn the car off and turn it back to the on position the CEL goes away. Any help on how I can figure out what this is?
ALSO, I am using the stock GSR engine harness and a P72 ECU. VTEC is still engaging and I didn't wire up extra wires. I have heard before that all EG's come with a VTEC harness even if they dont have VTEC. Is this true?

the cel you are throwing is more than likely your o2 sensor i had the same problem

So it is already wired for VTEC if it is a 92? What about any other EG's?
So you guys think that the CEL im throwing is my secondary O2? I thought VTEC wouldn't engage if there was a CEL, this is why I believe this ECU is chipped. What would you guys suggest if it is my secondary O2? just rewire the ECU to think that its running 2 but accually just only run the 1 or what?

chipped ecu will solve the problem. also disable the knock sensor while your at it. the only eg that is wired for vtec is all in 92 and 93-95 ex/vx/si. that is it. if you didnt run the wires then you arent engaging vtec, and the code is most likely for the lack of the vtec solenoid.
