I have a problems with my hybrid j1 y1 tranny . The casing and the final drive is a J1 and all the gears and syncros are y1 . When i put in on the car the car engaged fine in 1,2,3,4 reverse but when i put in in 5th it make a winding noise than it pop out of gear .


Something is rubbing when i put it in 5th ! What can cause that ???

 

Lets start simple..

Does it have enough tranny fluid? If not it can pop out of 5th how you describe..Also,,are there any problems with the shift linkage that may be causing this?

 

yes there enough fluid in it almost 3 quarts

 

When you ripped apart the tranny did you notice if the 5th gear synco had any wear on it? Also was the tranny working fine before you went inside..?

 

I never road tested it before I opened it.The 5th syncro was in shape I don't know was is going on in this tranny . I have reopened the tranny today and grinding seem to come from the 3th 4th syncro hub when i engage in 5th .The magnet as iron on it and i cleaned it before the road test

you should put another quart of tranny fluid...Usually the b series tranny's use 4.2quarts...4.5 if you do a rebuild. At least that's what i remember reading. Try and put a nother quart in...try it out....and check that fill hole line. should just barely trickle out the hole.
