Default acceleration problems

Sup guys,

I'm having problems with the car cutting in and out. I'm not sure if the fuel is cutting in/out or if the coil/spark is cutting in/out. Basically what happens is this... i'm driving down the road and keep accelerator at exactly say 40mph. I let off the accelerator cable just a "little" bit and there is a sudden cut off of power until the mph reach the current accelerator level then it's like the car comes back to life.

So I'm trying to figure out what this could be... i hear people saying that the ECU stops fuel on deceleration but this is too sudden... it's like it goes in and out of "power" whenever it feels like it.

It started doing it after I did a few very hard runs to redline.

Any help/pointers are greatly appreciated!

what do you mean it's supposed to do it? i'm not sure if this is due the motor mount being worn and is causing the motor to rock or something else...

Just a question. Do you have your Air Conditioner on when driving. I need more details like sounds the car makes when it cuts in and out of power.

no A/C in the car.. i've taken it out....

let's say i start from a standstill... i press the gas pedal and hold it at let's say 40mph.... the car runs smoothly until it reaches 40mph... once it reaches that point it decides to "suddenly slow down/cut out" and a half a second/second later it's back on gassing till it reaches 40mph...

so basically it's like 40mph.. cut out.. back to 36... comes back to life back to 40mph.... good for a while.... then cuts out again goes down to 38mph... comes back again accelerating back to 40mph...

something like that... and when it does that cutting out.. the car jerks which makes it even more obvious....

I would suggest full tune up. Fuel filter to spark plugs to air filter (or if aftermarket clean out the one you got) and seafoam it with an oil change.

I have similar problem as yours. Lucky I got home and restarted but didn't work. Replaced distributor with my spare, but didn't start too, it cranks though so battery is good. Check fuel pump by loosening outlet gas line from fuel filter and turn ignition to on and gas squirts. So it's not that. Check spark plug wires for spark with screw driver, all of them has sparks. Can anybody help? I need car badly to work tomorow. Thanks...

Check your sparkplug wires. On my car i kinda had a problem like that but it would sound like a sparkplug fouling out. Try this to. Is your car a standard or auto. Look at the rpm's also. If it is a sparkplug, wires, or coil, or distruber cap. It will start to run normal after 2500 rpm. Try to look at that when your driving and if you have any questions on that technique just ask me.

Hi, just replaced spark plugs with new ones and still doesn't start. My wires are 1-2 months old...fairly new. Sensor do you think? Which one? Tried looking for gray socket with black/white stripe and red/black stripe above ecu but no luck. This is to read code of CEL. Help anyone???? My civic 93 ls sedan is auto.[IMG][/IMG]

To check codes in your sedan the jumper will be brown and green/white. I know because mine is. I'm looking at it right now. Did you check ignition timing in DRIVE? For automatics you have to be in drive because the marks will move.

it could be the battery with a bad cell, it could be ur fuel pump going, doubt its ur sparks or ur distributer. not really to sure though

hello guys.. thanks for all feedback... i found the problem.. the head to chasis ground was disconnected.. the motor mounts are shot so the motor moves more than it should by ground wire was kinda short so it got cut off when i did the 1st-3rd gear redlining....

i put it back in there and it's all good now...

note to self: i'll check out uberdata... it might have fixed my freezing problem.... i think this is what was causing it
