Need help with b16a2 swap
Hi, I'm new to the site and have read through lots of posts but can't find anything specific to my application. I really need some help.
I just put a JDM 1996 b16a2 into a '99 EX 4dr. Sleeper
For those of you wondering, I live in Canada and there is no law limiting the year of motor i can put into my car like in some other areas. I'm sure thats why I can't find much about my specific swap. I got the car dirt cheap cuz it had 155,000 miles on it. Perfect.
The problems I ran into during the swap were fairly minor. I needed custom hoses made for A/c (yeah, i know, i should have tossed it) and power steering (should have tossed that too). I had to change a few connectors, but nothing really major. I went through all the info I could find, so i had the rear motor mount, tranny mount, linkage, axles, ecu conversion harness, etc all before i started the swap. After nearly pooping my pants in fear more than once, we (my dad and I) managed to get the d16 out and the b16 in. Now heres where it gets interesting.
It runs. I doesn't run well, but it runs. It does a few things.
1. It doesn't Idle until its at operating temperature. I have to keep it at 1000rpms manually to do this. Once its warm, it idles very rough, and only at about 450 rpm.
2. It sputters and coughs fairly regularily.
3. If i rev it up slowly, it seems to rev ok. But if I throttle up suddenly or quickly, it sucks a lot of air but bogs severely, to the point where it feels like I turned the ignition off. If i let off, it starts to rumble again.
4. The radiator fan comes on as soon as I turn the ignition on.
The ECU (obd1 that came with the motor) doesnt give me any codes. It did give me a 6 (temp sensor) but i changed it and the code went away. The check engine light is on all the time.
I haven't checked the vacuum hoses yet bacause, well, I'm not entirely sure I have them connected properly and the teardown manuals I have don't help at all. IF SOMEONE HAS A PICTURE OF THE VACUUM HOSES IN A JDM B16A2 IN A 96 -00 CIVIC, PLEASE POST IT HERE, or email to doublerye00@hotmail dot com.
Is it possible that the problem is in the fuel rail / injectors? (the injectors from the d16 should fit if i need them right?)
And why the heck would that bloody fan be on all the time?
Please help me - I have been without my car for 2 weeks and I am at my wits end. Sharing a car with my gf is going to kill me.
Thanks in advance.
Dave.

Does sitting in it making vroom vroom vraam noises with my mouth count as driving?
Seriously though, I did manage to drive it around the block. It took me 15 minuted but i did it.

OBD2b to OBD1 from rywire. I know its not in the harness or the ecu. Running the obd2b ecu gives me the same results, except it throws the crank sensor and vtec pressure codes for the d16.

sounds liek a bad IACV. You should be able to take the one off of your d16 and bolt it up to the b16 intake manifold. (near the throttlebody, two bolts and two coolant hoses running to it)
