Good shock for ground control coilovers?
What's the best bang for the buck for a good/stiff shock for some daily driving, and some racing. I've heard some people talking about some shocks not working with GC's (koni's maybe?). should I get KYB AGX's? Koni Yellows? I don't know that much about them... Thanks.

Do you know if they work with GC coilovers without being modified?

i personally have never heard of anyone having to modify those parts to work with each other, they work perfect together naturally i believe.
i have the agx kyb's on skunk2 coilovers, i like the set up a lot... but on the other hand.. i hear way too many good things about yellow's, i kinda wish i would of done alittle more research or had a little more money because i would of gone with the yellows most likely with ground control coilovers. Although i have had my kyb's for quite some time and havent experienced anything i dont like for example... the strut losing its dampining strength or anything like that.

Just FYI:
From GC's site: "This kit fits 94-2001 Honda Integra LIMITED EDITION with stock, Sachs, Boge, Tokico Premium Performance, Tokico Illumina, Monroe, Gabriel, KYB or AGX shocks. This kit does not fit Koni or Bilstein. "

Any opinions on which of these I should choose? I can afford whatever, but I want to save as much as possible.
1) GC's + KYB AGX's
2) GC's + Koni Yellow's (I'd have to get new upper plates or something so this is kinda out of the question)
3) Omni full coilovers (about the same price as the koni yellows after I sell my GC's)
4) GC's + ?? is there any non-adjustable stiff shock worth considering? I know a OEM replacment isn't worth getting.

they have different kits. one kit has specific diameter sleeves that are made to the same diamter as the koni or bilstein shocks.
the oterhs are made to fit over stock shocks.
but, i wholeheartedly recommnend GC+Koni. You do noty have to get new upper plates, you can reuse your stock shock mounts.

GC with koni's just require a specific kit for koni's. i dont think its much more expensive, if any, but it only works with konis.
the normal GC sleeves just dont fit on koni's safely.
if you dont want to go with konis, id go with illuminas over agx. not that agx is bad, ive ridden on a crx with GC/agx and GC/koni even, but i'm just a fan of illuminas, and so are many others.

Thanks guys, I already have the GC's on the car, so I would have to pay extra for the plates. How dangerous (or hard of an install) is it to run with the stock plates w/ koni's?
Will I see noticeable gains from the Koni's over AGX/Illumina's? I'll do some research on the Illuminas.
<rant> I have stock shocks w/ 120k miles so anything will be a BIG help... not to mention i'm making 300+whp so I should have a good suspension.
I haven't ridden in many cars besides my own so i'm basing my decision on your experiences, so thanks for the input. $430 is a lot for shocks, I'm hoping I'd be pretty happy with the koni's, if I got them. Does it really make a good difference in handleing? Also, are regular street GC's a good coilover to have for my setup? Its a daily driver... soon to be weekend car... and its mostly a drag car</rant>

It is not safe to use the standard kit with Koni shocks (Koni says not to). Koni shocks use a special clip to make their spring perch height adjustable. The special GC kit sits directly on this spring clip, and keeps it safe & properly covered.
For you to use your kit, you have two options:
1- You would have to order a set of new smaller diameter threaded sleeves, and gold nuts to match. The cost of parts is over $100. I did this and am very happy, but I can see how it could be cost prohibitive since the shocks are already $500.
2- You would have to order special length threaded sleeves (same diameter as yours), and a black metal adapter "insert" to sit on (and cover) the Koni snap ring. This method costs a little less, but isn't as nice of an install (IMO).
For the exact prices you should call GC & explain your situation. Illuminas are a good choice to, and will work perfectly with your existing GC parts.
