Default Towing with Honda Accord

I have 2005 Honda accord V6. I would like to tow a U-Haul 5x8 trailer (weight 900 lbs empty) and load it with about 500 lbs of furniture. My owners manual says I can only tow up to 1000 lbs but U-Haul and other hitch installers say it should be no problem to tow up to 2000 lbs. Has anyone used their Accord to tow anything like boat or trialer weighing 1500-2000 lbs ? Any problems ?

It can handle, that's for sure.
The engine may strugle a little to pull it, but it can still do it.
If my car (accord 97 4dr) can pull a cavalier and pull a camry, I think your can do even better than that.

unless you got a trans cooler I would not even attempt it. IT is not known if the 7th gen accords transmissions are reliable

Besides putting on a transmission cooler for an automatic, you should not drive in high gear - auto in D3 and not D4 or manual third instead of fourth.

Be sure you put an ATF coler in before the radiator to keep from overcooling the ATF. And you need to keep an eye on the themprature gauge.

If you have a 6 speed go for it. Just be careful of the clutch.
But either way stay away from the mountains and otherwise hilly ground.

I'd worry most about the tranny and if you have any hills don't even bother, overheat a auto once and you've cut it's life in half.

they guy i bought my civic si off of(95 hb) had a trailor hitch on this car, and towed a cart behind it all the time. hauling stuff to the dump and whatnot. he said he used it quite a bit, and now that i own the car i gotta say the tranny is still find and dandy after several yrs of being used to tow crap. i'm in no way saying hauling all the stuff you want to will not hurt yours, but on my little civic it didn't seem to bother it. i never would have imagined when i went to look at a honda there would be a trailor hitch on the back of it. lol

ever since the 97 Acura CL and the J30V6 were introduced, ALL HONDA V6 CARS WITH AUTO TRANSMISSIONS have had troubles. The 4 cyl cars are fine generally speaking and usually the automatic will last the life of the car........

there already has been recalls related to the 03 and newer accords and they just do not have any reliable data regarding the LONG TERM RELIABILITY of the autos. it will be at least a few more years before any solid data will be available and reliable.....
