hey .. i have a 95 gsr .. i have blue smoke coming out from the exhaust when shifting gears , deceleration , but normal white smoke during idle .. i understand that i am burning oil ..about 1 to 1.5 quarts per 3000 miles .. but i would still like to fix the problem ... any ideas where to begin ?

If your piston rings are in good shape, then it sounds like your valve stem seals are seeping.

If you downshift instead of just pushing in the clutch and letting the engine idle as you slow down it will suck in a lot of oil if the seals aren't good. My '91 is really bad about that. If I downshift, I'll go through a quart every 2k mi, if I don't it's more like .5 qt every 4k mi.

Thats not a whole lot of oil being burnt to where I would worry a whole lot, it sounds to me that it may be your valve seals. My car burns the same amount as well, was told it was my valve seals from a tech. Compression test turned out good mid 190's across the board. I wouldnt worry bout the rings, but u might want to have a compression and leakdown test.

its better to take the head off cause u wanna make sure the valve guides are good too, cause u can leak iol through those too.

did you have any oil leaking into your pistons or in to your cylinders? I have a similar problem but there is some kind of liquid in my 2 and 4th cylinder cause my spark plug is wet?

You probably just have bad gaskets for the sparkplug holes from the valvecover gasket set.

Ha, and only one quart really isn't that bad, I could go through 4-5 before an oil change, 4k and up it would leave clouds of smoke.
Valve seals are the first thing to go for though, which almost sounds like the problem.
