Default Some USDM Accords made in Japan?

i work at a honda dealership and i noticed a handful of 6th and 7th gen Accords having a J on the first digit on there VIN #, this does mean there made in Japan right. most have 1 which means there made in America. the same goes for some of the 7th Gen Civics ive seen on the lot. i dont if this has been covered before but id figured id share it.

ahha really you mean it's true? I have a whole bunch of people in here tell me that no accords were ever made in japan for the us market........Accords are made here at the Marysville Ohio plant and if they cannot meet demand, then they are brought in from Japan........been that way ever since they started making them here back in 1982..........mind pisting that in the 6th gen FAQ? ahha thanks

i have seen plenty of USDM accords with J vin numbers. however, ALL 5th gen SiR's were made in marysville...to think that motor was made in the united states, but they couldnt ******* put it into a USDM car...expletive that

wait... So all 5th gen coupe, sedan and wagon SiR's were made in Ohio and then shipped to Japan? Really? I didn't know that.

I knew there are some Honda from Ohio, Canada and Japan here in the states, just didn't know that about the SiR's.

its something like that....

not suprisingly, the TSX is a 95/5 from japan. starting w/ the 5th gens i believe, the Marysville plant was final assembly for most of the accords. if/when demand was too high, additional units would be shipped from japan. japanese accords could have US "vins", and american accords can have J vins. its all kinda hit or miss....

as far as Honda puts it J means final assembly was Japan. 1 means final assembly was Ohio, 2 means final assembly is in Canada, and now I ahve seen cars with 5 as the first digit, which i THINK is either Alabama or Mexico.

where the car is built is of little matter, it is the pool of parts that it come from (they all use the same pool of parts)

For the 4th gen, a few 2.0Si coupes were built here, LHD and everything, with crazy **** like heated leather seats, the rear air freshener, bumper poles, power folding mirrors and all that....only to be shipped to JDM land, used for 30K miles, junked and chopped up to be sold back here.

Honda must be kicking itself...
