I think the "grille piece" evens things out on the front end... without it theres just an odd open space.

Different car w/black painted horizontal grill:



You would get the same effect 'head on', but at any kind of an angle the black on red kind of kills the look, imo.

I voted for removal but on second thought I would just paint it black. I'm sure that bumper isn't cheap and you wouldn't really notice the piece anymore, much better than hacking it up.

Have it painted black. If you don't like it you can always paint it back red.

The lip does not look too bad to me.
