CLIP ON side moldings question for EG hatchback
Okay,
so, some of my side moldings fell off.. the front two. They were the stick-on type and underneath them on the fenders were holes for clip-ons. So, I went on password:jdm and ordered some clip-ons because they were on-sale. I go back outside, pull off the rest of my side moldings (stick-ons) and underneath the door and rear quarter panel are no holes....
Could I simply, but carefully, drill the holes for the clips myself? if so, what process should I go about doing this for the best results.
Thanks!

I'm not sure if that would work...
Maybe if i stacked the tape.. but i dont want these things to fall off like my last ones...
What if i switched the clips from a square type.. to a circular clip from the hardware store.. just drilled the holes and viola..

yeah... lay out where you need the holes at, figure up the right diameter of drill bit so that all you'll have to do is notch the corners, then take a dremel or a fine tooth saw blade and carefully cut out the corners. You may also be able to find a suitable corner punch but I doubt it.

damn i wish i had that, i hate the look of moldings
if you want, just drill the holes after measuring or dont run the molding

yea i guess the VX model doesn't have the holes precut.. i think it looks goofy without the side moldings.. like something in the bodyline is terribly missing.
anyways, I like your methond qat.. i'll probably just do it... maybe i could even make it look stock if i put some effort into it..

thanks. You could probably end up with a really nice job. You might even be able to pull the dimensions off a car that already has the holes. I would also recommend that you use some kind of paint on the bare metal to minimize rust.

Yes, that is VERY important, otherwise things could get very ugly in the rust department in a very short amount of time.

Personally, I'd recommend a good rust fixing primer first, then whatever you want second. I've had fairly good results with the duplicolor crud at Advanced Auto. The important thing here is getting a strong base that won't scratch off super easy. You really won't be seeing it unless you pull the mouldings off.

Good deal.... I neglected to do this and ended up with overspray on my glass.... long story, but yeah, it's easier to put the paper on than clean up the mess.

I've wondered how those thin mouldings looked myself. I've never seen a set in person. In truth, I'm partial to the fat mouldings... they've saved my doors more times than I can know. As for stick on vs. clip on, my view on the matter is this... it doesn't matter how sticky the tape is, it will eventually come unstuck.... it may be 30 years from now, but eventually it will come off, and according to Murphy's law, it will not be at an opportune time.
As for the clips, I never had any problem with them falling off, but don't try taking them off more than once or twice, especially if you're in a rust prone area. There are some screws at the end of a couple of pieces that just LOVE to rust of.
I guess it depends on what you want... Do you want them to stay put, and plan to leave the car alone, or do you think you'll want to pull them off fairly frequently....

I went the next day to **CHECK** them out, and the price was so good I couldnt pass on a kick *** deal so i bought them, hahaha, Im thinkin bout installing them this or next weekend, gotta see if im busy or not. Lucky for me Password is only like 5-10 mins away so i was able to swing by and pick them up personally. But if anyone wanna order them I can pick em up and deliver them myself. and dependin on how my install goes, i might even be able to install too, for a small fee or trade. I'll post pics once im done. Peace!
