no u don't have to jack up the car. the strut bar goes on top. and u just use the stock strut bolts. just remove the nuts from the top of the strut tower and put the bar on. its about a five minute job.

its actually recommended to jack up the car while you put them on, to put more tension on teh strut bar so it isnt loose, therefore more affective

no he means a factory strut bar.
You might be able to reach without jacking up the car. I personally would jack up the car.
For bolts, just get some from a local hardware store. Make sure to get lock washers

That makes no sense at all.

The LS does not have a stock strut bar, thus there are no "stock" strut nuts & bolts present.

I just got 4 nuts & bolts from Advance Auto (I don't recall what size). You don't have to jack the car up, but it does give you a little more room to get your arm and hands up under the wheel well and gain acces to the underside of the strut bar holes. It can be done fairly easily with the car planted on the ground though.

how does it not make sense? explain to me... if you put the strut bar on, when the car is on the ground there is no tension in the strut bar, and the strut bar is used to strengthen the chassis in corners, now if it is loose, isnt that defeating the purpose?

From Tanabe-usa.com:

Adjustable Preload
A very common error when installing tower bars, It is always recommended to raise the vehicle when installing so that the load of the shock uppermounts on the shock towers is relieved and balanced out. When raised, and the tower bar is placed onto the vehicle, the preload can be adjusted and set. After it is bolted on and the car is lowered, each shock tower will have equal load and will prevent independent movements of each shock. This will provide an extremely noticeable difference after installing. If a tower bar is installed on a car that is not raised, great benefits will be missed.

--I still think it's a bunch of hooey.

there have been a few debates about preloading a strut bar properly back in the day... i personally dont care and worry more about preload on my sway bars if im doing any suspension work.
